Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Falls to Wings
Askarov turned aside 21 of 24 shots in Friday's 4-2 loss to Detroit, with the Red Wings' final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The Sharks actually grabbed a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but Askarov couldn't make it stick. The 23-year-old netminder hasn't allowed fewer than three goals in a start since late November, and over his last 14 outings he's gone 7-6-0 with a rough 4.27 GAA and .866 save percentage.

Sharks' Carson Wetsch: Posts three-point game for Rockets
Wetsch scored two goals and added an assist in WHL Kelowna's 5-2 win over Calgary on Friday.
Wetsch was with the Hitmen for the previous three campaigns, and he showed out against his former team. He's up to 15 goals, 30 helpers and a plus-7 rating across 37 appearances for the Rockets this season. The Sharks prospect is just seven points shy of matching his 68-game output (52 points) from the 2024-25 regular season.

Sharks' Joey Muldowney: Scores twice Friday
Muldowney scored two goals in UConn's 4-1 win over the University of Vermont on Friday.
Muldowney has a pair of two-goal games over the last weekend. He's up to 11 tallies, seven helpers and a plus-11 rating through 18 appearances this season. The Sharks prospect, a sixth-round pick from 2022, is on a point-per-game pace, but that puts him behind his 29-goal, 47-point production from 39 contests in 2024-25.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine in Detroit
Askarov will defend the road crease against Detroit on Friday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic have alternated starts over the past week and a half, and that trend will continue in Friday's matchup. Askarov struggled during his home start against the Golden Knights on Sunday, allowing six goals on 31 shots (.806 save percentage) in a 7-2 loss.

Sharks' Will Smith: Ready to rock
Smith (upper body) will return to the lineup in Detroit on Friday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Smith missed 13 games with the injury. The fourth pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Smith has 12 goals and 17 assists in 33 games, establishing himself as a future star with the Sharks. He should line up on one of the top-two lines Friday and could return to his spot alongside Macklin Celebrini, giving Smith plenty of fantasy value.
