Penguins' Philip Tomasino: Logs power-play helper
Tomasino recorded a power-play assist in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Tomasino has two points over three contests since he returned from a four-game absence due to a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old set up a Cody Glass tally in the second period, which stood as the game-winner. Tomasino is now at 10 points (five on the power play) through 30 appearances between Pittsburgh and Nashville this season. He's added 52 shots on net, 26 hits and a minus-3 rating while often filling a middle-six role since he was traded to the Penguins.

Penguins' Michael Bunting: Slides power-play helper
Bunting provided a power-play assist, two hits and two PIM in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Bunting had been held off the scoresheet in his previous two appearances and also missed one game in that span due to an undisclosed injury. The 29-year-old winger has six goals and four assists over his last 11 outings, and seven of those points have come on the power play. He's up to 26 points (13 on the power play), 84 shots on net, 50 hits, 44 PIM and a minus-15 rating through 45 contests.

Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Contributes two power-play assists
Grzelcyk notched two power-play assists and three blocked shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Grzelcyk had been held off the scoresheet in his previous four games. That cold spell followed a stretch in which he racked up 10 points over 12 outings. The 31-year-old blueliner is up to one goal, 23 helpers, 10 power-play points, 55 shots on net, 64 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through 47 appearances. As long as he continues to be involved on the power play, he should have decent fantasy value. He's three points away from setting a new career high.

Penguins' Anthony Beauvillier: Scores in Friday's win
Beauvillier scored a goal on two shots and added three hits in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Beauvillier snapped a seven-game point drought when he buried his chance on a breakaway in the second period. The 27-year-old winger has been limited to four goals over his last 26 outings since the end of lone point streak this season, a four-game run in which he earned five points. He has 10 tallies, three helpers, 76 shots on net, 71 hits and a plus-1 rating through 46 contests.

Penguins' Rickard Rakell: Strikes on power play Friday
Rakell scored a power-play goal on two shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Rakell's goal early in the second period tied the game at 1-1. The 31-year-old forward has not slowed down in January, racking up six goals and two assists, including three power-play points, over eight contests this month. For the season, he has 23 goals, 39 points, 119 sohts on net, 76 hits, 52 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating over 47 appearances. He's already surpassed his output of 37 points from 2023-24, and a return to the 60-point mark is a possibility at his current pace.

Penguins' Cody Glass: Earns two points in win
Glass scored a power-play goal on three shots and added an assist in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Glass ended a seven-game point drought with the multi-point effort. He fed Anthony Beauvillier on a breakaway for the Penguins' go-ahead goal before scoring the game-winner himself midway through the second period. Glass has not consistently seen power-play time this season but got a chance Friday with Kris Letang (illness) out of the lineup. Glass is now at two goals, 11 points, 45 shots on net, 30 hits, 21 blocked shots and a minus-10 rating over 34 appearances, mainly in a bottom-six role.

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Pair of power-play points in win
Rust scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Rust remains hot in January -- he has three goals and six assists over eight contests this month. He set up Rickard Rakell's second-period tally before scoring one of his own in the third. Rust is up to 18 goals, 36 points (eight on the power play), 108 shots on net and a minus-22 rating through 40 appearances in a top-line role.

Penguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: Makes history Friday
Nedeljkovic stopped 40 of 42 shots, scored a goal and added an assist in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
A soft dump-in by the Sabres ended up in the trapezoid, and Nedeljkovic flung the puck toward the empty net from behind his own net. Per Chris Jastrzembski of NHL on TNT, Nedeljkovic is the first goalie to score in the NHL, AHL and ECHL, as well as the first goalie to have a goal and an assist in the same game. On top of the unexpected offense, the 29-year-old was stellar between the pipes, with the 40 saves matching a season high. He's now 8-7-4 with a 3.33 GAA and an .890 save percentage over 20 appearances this season. Nedeljkovic figures to see ample playing time in the near future after the Penguins waived Tristan Jarry following Tuesday's loss to the Kraken. That said, Nedeljkovic has earned a little rest after an unforgettable performance, and it'll likely be Joel Blomqvist's turn in goal against the Capitals on Saturday.

Penguins' Kris Letang: Not playing Friday
Letang (illness) is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Sabres.
Letang dealt with a lower-body injury in late December and early January, but the Penguins later revealed he is under the weather rather than hurt. Owen Pickering and Ryan Graves will both be in the lineup, while Letang is likely questionable to play Saturday versus the Capitals.

Penguins' Cody Glass: Available Friday
Glass (undisclosed) is available to play in Buffalo on Friday, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports.
Glass was injured Tuesday in Seattle, but he won't miss a game due to the undisclosed issue. Glass is without a point in his last seven games and has one goal and nine points across 33 appearances this season. He is expected to see middle-six action Friday.

Penguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: In goal Friday
Nedeljkovic will get the starting nod on the road against the Sabres on Friday, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports.
It's the Nedeljkovic era for the Penguins now after Tristan Jarry was sent down to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday. On the year, the 29-year-old Nedeljkovic has posted a 7-7-4 record, which goes with career-worst ratios in both GAA (3.40) and save percentage (.886). As such, the Ohio native's hold on the No. 1 job should be considered tenuous as best, as the Pens may want to turn things over to Joel Blomqvist sooner rather than later.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Officially sent down
Jarry, as expected, was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday after passing through waivers unclaimed.
Jarry has been decidedly bad this season, going 8-8-4 with a career-worst .884 save percentage and 3.31 GAA. Multiple times this season, the 29-year-old netminder gave up a goal on the first shot he faced. Tuesday's matchup with Seattle appears to have been the straw that broke the camel's back, as Jarry conceded two goals in 50 seconds, costing the Penguins the lead and ultimately the game. The British Columbia native heads to the minors mired in a five-game losing streak in which he posted a 0-3-2 record over six appearances.

Penguins' Cody Glass: Undergoing evaluation
Glass is being checked for an undisclosed injury, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports Wednesday.
Glass is currently mired in a seven-game pointless streak in addition to his 16-game goal drought dating back to Dec. 10 versus Colorado. If the winger were to miss out on Friday's matchup with Buffalo, Philip Tomasino figures to be elevated to a second-line role, while Jesse Puljujarvi will likely be called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if needed.

Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Up from minors
The Penguins will recall Blomqvist from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Blomqvist has a 3-5-0 record, 3.61 GAA and .904 save percentage in eight appearances in 2024-25. He also has a 2.93 GAA and a .912 save percentage across 12 outings with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Blomqvist will presumably serve as Pittsburgh's No. 2 goaltender behind Alex Nedeljkovic going forward. Tristan Jarry was waived Wednesday and is expected to be sent to the minors if he goes unclaimed.

Penguins' Kris Letang: First point since return
Letang notched an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
The helper was Letang's first point in six games since he returned from a lower-body injury. The 37-year-old blueliner has seen plenty of ice time in a top-four role, but he's had some trouble getting involved on offense this season. He's at 17 points, 92 shots on net, 71 hits, 45 blocked shots and a minus-15 rating over 40 appearances. Letang hasn't finished below a 0.5 points-per-game pace since 2009-2010, but that could change in 2024-25 if he doesn't heat up.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Draws assist in return
Malkin notched an assist and two hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Malkin missed four games due to an upper-body injury. He resumed his usual second-line role and saw 17:37 of ice time in his return, and he was able to help out on a Bryan Rust tally in the second period. Malkin has 33 points, 72 shots on net, 30 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a minus-18 rating through 42 appearances this season. He's tracking toward a 60-point campaign if he can remain healthy and consistent the rest of the way.

Penguins' Philip Tomasino: Puts away goal
Tomasino scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Tomasino was able to tickle the twine in his second game back after missing four contests due to a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old forward has been on the third line and second power-play unit since his return. He's at nine points, 52 shots on net, 25 hits and a minus-3 rating over 29 appearances between the Penguins and the Predators this season, though his offense has been much better with Pittsburgh.

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Tallies in Tuesday's loss
Rust scored a goal on four shots, added two hits and went minus-2 in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Rust continues to look good in January with two goals and seven points over seven contests. The winger's tally put the Penguins ahead 2-1 in the second period. Rust is up to 17 goals, 34 points, 106 shots on net, 37 hits, 35 blocked shots and a minus-22 rating through 39 appearances this season.
