Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov: Receives three-game suspension
The NHL handed Tsyplakov a three-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Ryan Poehling (upper body) during Thursday's 5-3 win over the Flyers.
Tsyplakov wasn't assessed a penalty on the play, but Poehling exited the game and won't be available for the Flyers' tilt against the Devils on Saturday. The 26-year-old Tsyplakov will be eligible to return Jan. 25 versus Carolina. He has seven goals, 19 points, 26 PIM and 101 hits in 44 outings in 2024-25. His absence might push Marc Gatcomb, who was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Friday, into the lineup.

Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Tallies in Thursday's loss
Barzal scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Flyers.
Barzal scored 30 seconds into the third period, cutting the Flyers' lead to 3-2 at the time. Barzal has been in good form lately with two goals and six assists over his last nine contests, though he has yet to earn a power-play point over 13 outings since he returned from an upper-body injury. The 27-year-old has produced 14 points, 59 shots on net and a plus-4 rating through 23 appearances.

Islanders' Anders Lee: Secures 20-goal season
Lee scored a power-play goal on two shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Flyers.
Lee has surged to the 20-goal mark this season, scoring seven times over his last nine contests. The 34-year-old winger has reached that threshold nine times over the last 11 seasons, but he's only gotten to the 30-goal mark twice in his career. Lee is at 36 points (six on the power play), 132 shots on net, 63 hits and a plus-10 rating through 44 appearances in 2024-25.

Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Between pipes for Saturday
Hogberg will tend the twine at home against the Sharks on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Hogberg has conceded just one goal in each of his last two appearances while stopping 46 shots (.958 save percentage). Given his solid numbers of late, another high-end performance out of the 30-year-old backstop Saturday could see him challenge Ilya Sorokin for more opportunities between the crease.

Islanders' Hudson Fasching: Shifts to IR
Fasching (upper body) was designated for injured reserve Friday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Fasching has already been out of action, so the move to injured reserve won't impact his timeline to return to the lineup. Considering the 29-year-old winger has yet to record a point in 19 appearances this year, few fantasy managers will be eagerly awaiting his return. With the extra roster spot, the team brought up Marc Gatcomb from AHL Bridgeport on Friday.

Islanders' Simon Holmstrom: Could return Saturday
Head coach Patrick Roy said Friday that Holmstrom (upper body) could return to action against the Sharks on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Holmstrom has been dealing with his upper-body injury since the end of December, but he could return to action following a seven-game absence. Over 37 appearances this year, he's logged nine goals, 13 assists, 28 blocked shots, 10 hits and six PIM while averaging 16:31 of ice time.

Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Ascends to NHL
Gatcomb was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Friday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Gatcomb made his NHL debut Tuesday, picking up four hits and a blocked shot in 7:27 of action. Maxim Tsyplakov could get suspended for his hit to the head on the Flyers' Ryan Poehling, and if so, it will leave the Islanders with only 12 healthy forwards, including Gatcomb.

Islanders' Bo Horvat: Two PP points in loss
Horvat delivered a goal and an assist, both on the power play, in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Flyers.
He also added seven shots on net, two hits and a minus-1 rating to his ledger. The power-play points were the first for Horvat since Oct. 29, a stunning 33-game drought for a player who'd generated 22 goals and 40 points with the man advantage over the prior two seasons. Through 43 appearances in 2024-25, Horvat's supplied a somewhat disappointing 14 goals and 32 points, but he remains on the Isles' top power-play unit and could still turn things around in the second half.

Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov: Having hearing with DPOS
Tsyplakov will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia's Ryan Poehling (upper body) in Thursday's game.
Tsyplakov was not penalized for the hit in the Flyers' 5-3 win over the Islanders. Poehling took a hit to the head at the 8:23 mark of the opening period and did not return. Tsyplakov has not picked up a point in his last 10 games and has seven goals and 19 points over 44 appearances this season.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Tough night versus Philly
Sorokin stopped 19 of 23 shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Flyers, with Philadelphia's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The Flyers struck three times in the second period to take the lead for good, with the Islanders' defense seemingly unable to clear their own zone or stop the visitors from some tic-tac-toe passing displays. It's the sixth time in his last 11 outings that Sorokin has surrendered at least four goals, a bumpy stretch in which he's gone 5-6-0 with a 3.41 GAA and .876 save percentage.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Good to go Thursday
Pageau (illness) will be back in the lineup against the Flyers on Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Pageau was sidelined for Tuesday's tilt due to an illness but appears ready to go after sitting out just one game. In his previous nine outings, the veteran center has generated three goals, two assists and 16 shots while averaging 16:27 of ice time. With Pageau fit to play, he'll retake his usual third-line role alongside Anthony Duclair and Casey Cizikas.

Romanov will miss his third consecutive contest due to his lingering upper-body issue. Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Set to start against Philadelphia
Sorokin was the first goalie off Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, indicating that he'll draw the home start against the Flyers.
Sorokin sat out Saturday's game against Utah due to an illness, and he got the night off Tuesday against the Senators. However, he'll return to the net Thursday and will attempt to extend his win streak to three games. Across his last five starts, the 29-year-old has gone 3-2-0 with a 2.20 GAA and .921 save percentage.

Islanders' Dennis Cholowski: Slumping, but still in lineup
Cholowski has gone six games without a point after Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Senators.
Alexander Romanov's upper-body injury has opened the door for Cholowski to play again after a six-game stint as a healthy scratch. Prior to that stretch, he had seen a healthy share of ice time, but he's topped 15 minutes just once in his last four outings while filling a spot on the third pairing. Cholowski has eight points, 23 shots on net, 29 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 27 appearances. He could lose his place in the lineup and possibly also his roster spot once the Islanders' blue line is fully healthy, but that won't happen until Mike Reilly (chest) is able to return, which isn't expected to happen until after the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Heads to minors
Gatcomb was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Gatcomb has nine goals and 17 points in 34 appearances with Bridgeport in 2024-25. He made his NHL debut Tuesday against Ottawa, recording four hits and one block in 7:27 of ice time.

Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Out-dueled in Tuesday's loss
Hogberg turned aside 25 of 26 shots in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Senators, with Ottawa's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The 30-year-old netminder made his NHL debut with Ottawa in 2018-19 and did his best to deliver a revenge game against his former organization, but Adam Gaudette tipped a point shot past Hogberg in the second period, and it was all the offense Leevi Merilainen would need in the other crease. Hogberg has started two straight games while Ilya Sorokin dealt with an illness and played well, allowing only two goals on 48 shots, but Sorokin figures to reclaim the No. 1 job as soon as he's deemed fit. Semyon Varlamov (lower body) has no timeline for his return from LTIR however, and Hogberg's recent performances might earn him more consistent work as Sorokin's backup.
