  • Devils' Erik Haula: On injured reserve

Haula (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Haula hasn't played since Jan. 4, so he can be activated whenever he's healthy. Putting him on IR likely had less to do with his timetable and was instead done to enable the corresponding move of Colton White's recall from AHL Utica. Haula has five goals, 11 points, 29 PIM and 67 hits in 42 outings in 2024-25.

  • Devils' Colton White: Recalled by New Jersey

White was recalled from AHL Utica on Friday.

White hasn't yet made his season debut for the Devils this season, but he'll rejoin the NHL club after Erik Haula (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. Over 26 appearances with Utica this year, White has recorded a goal, 10 assists, 27 PIM and a plus-2 rating.

  • Devils' Johnny Kovacevic: Records helper in overtime loss

Kovacevic notched an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.

Kovacevic remains more of a shutdown defenseman, but he has three helpers over 10 outings since the holiday break. The 27-year-old blueliner is up to 13 points through 47 contests, matching his production from 62 games last season. He's added 44 shots on net, 58 hits, 62 blocked shots, 35 PIM and a plus-14 rating in 2024-25 while playing in a top-four role.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Sees red twice in OT loss

Hischier scored twice Thursday in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.

Hischier has three goals in his last two games and 22 in 47 games. But he has just four points including those three snipes, in his last nine games. Hischier isn't likely to hit the point-per-game plateau this season for the second time in his career, but a 65-point year is possible. Then it's decision time for fantasy managers -- is he a 60-67 point guy after delivering in that range three times in his last four seasons. Or is Hischier the point-per-game pivot he was in 2022-23 (80 points, 81 games). We're watching that carefully, because that's a huge difference in fantasy value.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Battled brilliantly in loss

Markstrom made 37 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss to Toronto on Thursday.

The Leafs tend to come in waves, and that's exactly what happened Thursday. Markstrom was magnificent at the time, but so were Auston Matthews and William Nylander, who each had two goals. He's been battling since the end of 2024, delivering a 2-2-3 record in his last seven starts. The Devils had a few breakdowns that cost them Thursday, and Markstrom paid the price. Still, the netminder is a great fantasy play with a sparkling 2.40 GAA, fifth-best in the NHL.

  • Devils' Jack Hughes: Three-point night for top-10 scorer

Hughes scored and had two assists in a 4-3 overtime loss to Toronto on Thursday.

Hughes is right there with the offensive heavyweights in the NHL, and he's currently eighth overall with 55 points (18 goals, 37 assists), plus 179 shots in 47 games. Hughes is on pace to top 310 shots, which elevates his value even more in leagues that count that category. Volume shooters can sometimes make or break your fantasy week in leagues count that category.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Expected to face Toronto

Markstrom is set to start on the road against Toronto on Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Markstrom is 21-8-4 with a 2.15 GAA and a .913 save percentage in 33 starts in 2024-25. He's continued to succeed recently, stopping 101 of 109 shots (.927 save percentage) over his past four starts, though New Jersey struggled to provide him with adequate offense, resulting in Markstrom posting a 2-0-2 record during that stretch. Toronto ranks 13th in goals per game with 3.02.

  • Devils' Brian Halonen: Recalled by New Jersey

Halonen was recalled from AHL Utica on Thursday.

Halonen made his NHL debut with the Devils last year by appearing in two games and logging two shots on goal and two hits while averaging 8:17 of ice time. He'll rejoin New Jersey for the first time this season since Stefan Noesen (illness) and Erik Haula (ankle) will be unavailable for Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs. However, it seems unlikely that Halonen will play a significant role for the Devils if he enters the lineup.

  • Devils' Kurtis MacDermid: Still in part-time role

MacDermid logged a season-high four hits in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.

MacDermid has a short-term path to playing time while Stefan Noesen (illness) and Erik Haula (ankle) are out. Even if he continues to suit up, MacDermid will have extremely limited minutes on the fourth line -- his 6:36 of ice time Tuesday was his fourth-highest total of the season. He doesn't have a point this season while adding five shots on net, 29 hits and 19 PIM across 17 appearances.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Ends slump with assist

Bastian logged an assist and two hits in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.

The helper was Bastian's first point in 16 games since he returned from a broken jaw. The 27-year-old winger has occupied a fourth-line spot during that stretch and has been a regular in the lineup despite the lack of offense. He's at six points, 24 shots on net, 27 PIM and 58 hits through 28 appearances this season.

  • Devils' Timo Meier: Produces assist Tuesday

Meier logged an assist, two shots on goal, four hits and three blocked shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.

Meier has a goal and two assists over his last seven outings. He had seven points over a five-game span right before the holiday break, so the winger has cooled off a bit. Overall, he's at 14 goals, 16 helpers, 133 shots on net, 78 hits, 50 PIM, 34 blocked shots and a plus-12 rating through 45 appearances. Meier's all-around production is excellent for fantasy, and his 10.5 shooting percentage could still tick up a couple of notches if he gets back on track in the second half.

  • Devils' Stefan Noesen: Unavailable for Thursday

Noesen (illness) won't join the Devils on the road, which rules him out for Thursday's tilt in Toronto, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

After that game, the Devils will return home to host Philadelphia on Saturday. Noesen has 17 goals, 28 points, 21 PIM and 94 hits in 45 outings in 2024-25. Kurtis MacDermid might make a second straight appearance Thursday because of Noesen's absence.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Scores goal vs. Florida

Hischier scored a goal in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.

Hischier has cracked the scoresheet in three of his last five appearances, but the 26-year-old hasn't exactly set the world on fire with his numbers in recent weeks. He remains productive, however, and his excellent start to the season -- he notched 15 points in his first 13 games -- means he's recorded 37 points over 46 regular-season appearances thus far.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Stops 27 shots Tuesday

Markstrom stopped 27 of 28 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.

Markstrom played at an elite level in December, going 8-1-1 with a 1.30 GAA and a .937 save percentage across 10 appearances, but his numbers have regressed a bit in recent weeks. He's gone 2-1-2 with a 2.13 GAA and a .917 save percentage in five January appearances. That said, even with the regression, Markstrom remains an excellent fantasy alternative across all formats. The Devils are playing three games over the next five days, though, so it wouldn't be surprising if Markstrom gets some much-needed rest in the coming days after starting five games in a row.

  • Devils' Stefan Noesen: Unavailable Tuesday

Noesen (illness) won't play versus the Panthers on Tuesday.

Noesen is set to miss his first game of the season. The 31-year-old has been massive in a middle-six role this season, earning 17 goals and 11 assists over 45 contests, with 11 of his 28 points coming on the power play. Tomas Tatar and Paul Cotter are likely to pick up extra minutes, while Kurtis MacDermid figures to be in the lineup to cover for Noesen's absence.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: In goal Tuesday

Markstrom will protect the home net versus Florida on Tuesday, according to Doug Plagens of the Panthers Radio Network.

Markstrom is coming off a 23-save performance in Saturday's 3-2 overtime victory over Tampa Bay. He has a 21-8-3 record with three shutouts, 2.19 GAA and a .911 save percentage across 32 appearances this season. Florida ranks ninth in the league with 3.25 goals per game in 2024-25 and lost 4-3 to Philadelphia on Monday.
