  • Stars' Evgenii Dadonov: Notches assist Thursday

Dadonov posted an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Canadiens.

Dadonov has two goals and five assists over eight outings in January. He's played on the top line at even strength for much of the month due to the ongoing absence of Mason Marchment (face). Dadonov is up to 23 points in 44 contests, matching his output from 51 regular-season outings last season. He's added 77 shots on net, 30 hits and a plus-10 rating in 2024-25.

  • Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Logs helper in loss

Johnston had an assist, three shots on net and two hits in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Canadiens.

Johnston picked up his second assist in as many games when he recorded the secondary helper on Jason Robertson's first-period strike. The top-line center has emerged from a cold start to the season -- just seven points through his first 17 outings -- and has 25 points over the last 27 contests.

  • Stars' Jason Robertson: Scores early in loss

Robertson scored a goal on four shots and had two hits in Thursday's 3-1 loss to Montreal.

Robertson put the Stars on top when he capitalized on a rebound just under four minutes into the first period. The tally was the 12th of the season for Robertson, who has scored five times in the last 10 outings. He's riding a three-game point streak and ranks second on the club with 37 points.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Loses duel Thursday

Oettinger allowed two goals on 23 shots in Thursday's 3-1 loss to Montreal.

It's the second time in the last week these two teams were involved in a goalie duel. Oettinger won the battle last Saturday but fell to Montreal's rookie netminder, Jakub Dobes, who stopped 32 of 33 shots. The loss snapped a six-start win streak for Oettinger, who sports a 2.20 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. His 22 wins are second in the NHL behind only Connor Hellebuyck. The Stars play next in Colorado on Saturday then are at home Sunday against the suddenly pesky Red Wings.

  • Stars' Roope Hintz: Sitting out Thursday

Hintz (upper body) will not be in the lineup Thursday against the Canadiens, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Hintz was injured in the opening period against Toronto on Tuesday and did not return. Hintz has struggled offensively this season with 27 points in 42 games -- albeit with 19 goals -- after three straight seasons with at least 65 points. The Stars recalled Justin Hryckowian and Matej Blumel from AHL Texas ahead of Thursday's game, and one of them will enter the lineup in place of Hintz.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Defending cage versus Habs

Oettinger will patrol the crease in Thursday's home clash with Montreal, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Oettinger is riding a six-game winning streak during which he's posted a 1.78 GAA and .930 save percentage. If there is a knock on the 26-year-old netminder's performance this season, it's the fact that he has just one shutout in 32 appearances, and that came back on Oct. 12 versus the Islanders. Still, Oettinger is sporting a career-best 2.31 GAA and should easily reach the 30-win mark for the fourth straight season.

  • Stars' Justin Hryckowian: Back in NHL

Hryckowian was promoted from AHL Texas on Thursday.

Hryckowian has been outstanding at the AHL level, tallying 12 goals and adding 20 assists in 32 games. The 23-year-old center has yet to hit the scoresheet in the NHL, as he is without a point in two contests. The Stars could need an extra forward Thursday, as Roope Hintz left Tuesday's tilt in Toronto with an upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day at this time.

  • Stars' Matej Blumel: Called back up

Blumel was recalled from AHL Texas on Thursday.

Blumel was sent to the minors Wednesday, but he'll rejoin the NHL club ahead of Thursday's home game against Montreal. Blumel has made three appearances for Dallas this season, and he's failed to record a point but has logged two hits and a blocked shots while averaging 7:01 of ice time.

  • Stars' Arttu Hyry: Sent back to minors

Hyry was reassigned to AHL Texas on Wednesday.

Since Dallas doesn't play again until Thursday's matchup with Montreal, the decision to demote Hyry, along with Matej Blumel, is likely a temporary cap-saving measure. Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised to see both forwards recalled ahead of the clash with the Canadiens.

  • Stars' Matej Blumel: Returns to AHL

Blumel was sent to AHL Texas on Wednesday.

Blumel has no points, three shots, two hits and a block in three appearances with Dallas in 2024-25. The 24-year-old averaged just 7:01 of ice time in that span, but he plays a far bigger role in the AHL and has 18 goals and 32 points across 32 outings with Texas this season.

  • Stars' Brendan Smith: Getting short end of playing time

Smith has been scratched for 11 of the Stars' last 12 contests after sitting out Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.

Smith appears to be on the outside looking in with the Stars' blue line at full health. The 35-year-old defenseman could offer a challenge to Matt Dumba or Nils Lundkvist, but Smith has been middling at best in 2024-25 with three assists, a minus-3 rating, 20 PIM, 19 hits and 13 blocked shots over 16 appearances. Smith is not even guaranteed to be the first blueliner to jump into the lineup, as Dallas has often called up prospect Lian Bichsel to cover injury or illness absences on defense.

  • Stars' Sam Steel: Bags apple in win

Steel notched an assist, three shots on goal, two hits and four PIM in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.

Steel has two helpers over seven contests in January. The 26-year-old forward is seeing steady middle-six minutes for the Stars while they deal with the absences of Mason Marchment (face) and Tyler Seguin (hip). Overall, Steel has 16 points, 49 shots on net, 42 hits and a minus-1 rating over 42 appearances. There's nothing flashy about his game, though his overall production is too low for consideration in many fantasy formats.

  • Stars' Thomas Harley: Power-play helper in win

Harley notched a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.

Harley had been held off the scoresheet over the previous three games. The defenseman is up to 22 points (three on the power play), 94 shots on net, 53 blocked shots and a plus-22 rating across 41 appearances. There's some fluidity to the Stars' defense pairings, but Harley has been one of the team's top blueliners this season regardless of who he's paired with.

  • Stars' Mavrik Bourque: Starting to find groove

Bourque scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.

Bourque has four points over his last five games, and two of those points have come on the power play. His tally Tuesday was also his first career game-winner, as the Stars didn't let the Maple Leafs back in after Bourque's second-period tally. The 23-year-old rookie has four goals, seven assists, 40 shots on net and a minus-1 rating through 38 appearances this season.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Three-point night in win

Duchene had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.

His power-play goal pushed the score to 3-1 early in the third period. These were Duchene's first points in four games, but he has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) across his last nine appearances. He's put up an impressive 17 goals and 24 assists with 77 shots in 43 games this season, and his 55.1 winning percentage at the dot will help. This is the first time Duchene has flirted with a point-per-game pace since 2021-22, and there's no sign of him slowing down.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Sixth straight win

Oettinger made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over Toronto on Tuesday.

Auston Matthews ripped a shot high blocker from the left face-off dot early in the first to open the scoring, but Oettinger shut the door from that point. He was especially strong on special teams, leaving the Leafs power play frustrated twice. Oettinger has won six straight games, and he allowed just 11 goals in that span. Overall, he's 22-9-1 with a 2.31 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

  • Stars' Logan Stankoven: Snaps 25-game goal drought

Stankoven scored twice and added an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Toronto.

The bounces finally went his way, and Stankoven was able to end a 25-game goal drought (six assists). Now is a great time to inquire about his availability in a keeper or dynasty trade. Stankoven's hype machine was huge heading into 2024-25, but he scuffled after putting up six goals and 11 assists in his first 16 games. His future remains bright.
