Top Hurricanes News

  • Hurricanes' Shayne Gostisbehere: Posts power-play helper

Gostisbehere registered a power-play assist and went minus-2 in Friday's 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Devils in Game 3.

Gostisbehere got on the scoresheet for the second game in a row, but it was an otherwise lackluster performance for the high-scoring blueliner. He has two points, two shots on net, two hits, four blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over three playoff contests. The 32-year-old should be able to generate strong offense on the first power-play unit throughout the postseason.

  • Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Supplies power-play assist

Svechnikov notched a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Friday's 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Devils in Game 3.

Svechnikov has a goal, an assist, seven shots on net and six hits over three playoff contests. He set up Sebastian Aho for the game-tying goal at 12:20 of the third period. Svechnikov's power-play role should help him get more looks on offense, but he's struggled with consistency at times in 2024-25, which has landed him a spot in the middle six regularly.

  • Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Strikes on power play

Jarvis scored a power-play goal, added two PIM and logged three hits in Friday's 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Devils in Game 3.

Jarvis has scored in back-to-back games. The 23-year-old winger is up to two goals, six shots on net, 10 hits, five blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over three playoff outings. He's filling a top-line role and also has a spot on the first power-play unit, so he should be able to sustain a high level of scoring throughout the Hurricanes' playoff run.

  • Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Two power-play points in Game 3

Aho scored a goal on four shots, dished an assist and added four hits in Friday's 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Devils in Game 3.

Aho had been limited to one assist over two games to begin the first-round playoff series before a bigger performance in Game 3. The center has added seven shots on net, nine hits, two blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over three postseason contests. Aho is in his usual spots on the first line and top power-play unit, so he should continue to be a driving force on offense for the Hurricanes.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Plays well in double-overtime loss

Andersen stopped 34 of 37 shots in Friday's 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Devils in Game 3.

Andersen played well enough to keep things close despite giving up the first two goals. The Hurricanes cashed in twice on the power play to force overtime, but a Simon Nemec tally 2:36 into the second extra session sent Andersen to his first loss this postseason. Still, he's allowed just five goals on 87 shots across those three games, and he's established himself as the Hurricanes' clear No. 1 in goal for the playoffs.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Slated to start Friday

Andersen is expected to patrol the visiting crease in New Jersey on Friday in Game 3, per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.

Andersen has been spectacular in the playoffs thus far, allowing two goals on 50 shots in two victories over New Jersey. Andersen was 13-8-1 with a 2.50 GAA and an .899 save percentage across 22 regular-season appearances this season. New Jersey was tied for 20th in NHL scoring during the regular season, producing 2.93 goals per game.

  • Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Deposits empty-netter

Jarvis scored an empty-net goal on three shots, added two hits and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Devils in Game 2.

Jarvis put the final touches on the win, which saw the Hurricanes take care of business on home ice to establish a 2-0 series lead. The empty-netter was his first point of the series, but he's added five shots on net, seven hits and four blocked shots over two contests. Jarvis has quickly developed into a reliable two-way forward and should continue to see significant ice time throughout the postseason.

  • Hurricanes' Shayne Gostisbehere: Nets equalizer in Game 2

Gostisbehere scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Devils in Game 2.

Gostisbehere tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period. The 32-year-old defenseman is still listed on the third pairing, but his power-play role makes him a de facto top-four blueliner in terms of usage and scoring. He had a strong regular season with 45 points (27 on the power play) as well as 122 shots on net, 66 blocked shots, 52 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 70 appearances.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook: Pots shorthanded winner in Game 2

Martinook scored the game-winning goal shorthanded and added an even-strength assist in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over the Devils in Game 2 of their first-round series.

The veteran winger made his 10th career playoff goal count, taking a breakout pass from Dmitry Orlov and wiring the puck past Jacob Markstrom early in the second period to give Carolina a 2-1 lead. Martinook has a goal and three points in the Hurricanes' first two games this postseason, and he's had playoff success in the past -- he racked up three goals and 12 points in 15 contests during the team's 2022-23 run, which ended in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Panthers.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Sharp again Tuesday

Andersen made 25 saves in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Devils in Game 2 of their first-round series.

Jesper Bratt banged home a rebound less than four minutes into the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead, but Andersen shut the door the rest of the way. The 35-year-old netminder has had a brilliant start to Carolina's playoff run, allowing two goals on 50 shots in two straight wins. Andersen will look to keep rolling in Game 3 on Friday as the series shifts to New Jersey.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: In goal against Devils

Andersen will get the starting nod at home versus the Devils in Game 2 on Tuesday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.

Andersen had been splitting the crease with Pyotr Kochetkov since the 4 Nations Face-Off, but he will make his third straight appearance in goal. In Game 1, the veteran backstop stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 4-1 victory over New Jersey. Barring a drastic drop-off, Andersen figures to see the bulk of the workload in the postseason.

  • Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Offers helper in Game 1 win

Slavin notched an assist and three shots on goal in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Devils in Game 1.

Slavin will be relied on for his defense during the playoffs, but he can chip in some offense as well. The defenseman had three assists over his last seven regular-season appearances before resting for two games leading into the postseason. He had a total of 27 points, 110 shots on net, 136 blocked shots and a plus-16 rating over 80 regular-season outings in a top-pairing role.

  • Hurricanes' Eric Robinson: Picks up assist in Game 1

Robinson notched an assist, four shots on goal and eight hits in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Devils in Game 1.

Robinson ended the regular season on a seven-game point drought, but it didn't take him long to get on the scoresheet in the playoff opener. He set up a Jalen Chatfield goal at 2:24 of the first period. Robinson was effective in a variety of roles with 14 goals, 32 points, 110 shots on net and 123 hits over 82 regular-season contests. He began the postseason on the fourth line but could move into the middle six if head coach Rod Brind'Amour shuffles his forward trios at at point.

  • Hurricanes' Taylor Hall: Slings two helpers

Hall dished two assists and put three shots on net in Sunday's 4-1 win over New Jersey in Game 1.

Hall posted a strong performance as a playmaker in Game 1 with two apples. The first of his two assists arrived on a power-play goal scored by Logan Stankoven in the second period. Hall then tallied a helper on Andrei Svechnikov's empty-net goal late in the contest. The 33-year-old winger posted 24 helpers across 77 games in the regular season. His offensive efforts have thrived down the stretch with 18 points in his last 20 games between the regular season and playoffs. He has a multi-assist performance in back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 21-23 earlier this season. Hall is in a prime spot to be a difference maker for the Hurricanes in the postseason while skating in a top-six role.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Strikes empty-netter

Svechnikov scored an empty-net goal and fired five shots on net in Sunday's 4-1 win over New Jersey in Game 1.

Svechnikov found New Jersey's empty net with two and a half minutes left in Game 1 to help seal the win for Carolina. He has struggled to put more than a couple of shots on net per game this season, so his five shots on goal in Game 1 helped spark goals in the series opener. Svechnikov now has a goal in back-to-back games dating back to the Hurricanes' last contest of the regular season. The 25-year-old winger is in a great place to produce in a top-six role for Carolina this postseason. However, his play has been inconsistent this season which led to him posting 48 points in 72 regular-season outings.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' Jalen Chatfield: Lights lamp in Game 1

Chatfield scored a goal, had two PIM and recorded a blocked shot in Sunday's 4-1 win over New Jersey in Game 1.

Chatfield's goal set the tempo for the rest of the contest by finding the back of the net just under two and a half minutes into Game 1. He then picked up a cross-checking penalty on New Jersey's Nico Hischier just minutes later. Even though Chatfield tallied just seven goals in the regular season, he's had the hot hand as of late with two goals in his last three contests. Chatfield will likely cool off offensively throughout the playoffs and return to his primary role as a strong defenseman with a good plus-minus rating. However, his ability to perform offensively in big moments is an encouraging sign for the Hurricanes moving forward.
