Luukkonen made 20 saves in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Capitals.
Buffalo grabbed an early lead on a first-period goal by Sam Carrick, but that was all the offensive support Luukkonen would get on the night. It was the first regulation loss for the 27-year-old netminder since Jan. 19, and over five starts since the Olympic break Luukkonen has posted a solid 2.63 GAA and .910 save percentage.

Sabres' Tyson Kozak: Unavailable Thursday
Kozak (undisclosed) isn't expected to play Thursday versus Washington, per Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News.
Kozak has also missed Buffalo's past four outings. He has two goals and four points in 39 appearances this season. Kozak might play on the fourth line once he's healthy, but it's also possible he'll be a healthy scratch.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Slated to face Washington
Luukkonen is expected to start at home against Washington on Thursday, per Heather Engel of NHL.com.
Luukkonen has a 15-7-2 record, 2.74 GAA and .904 save percentage in 25 outings in 2025-26. He's won his past four starts, but he did surrender seven goals on 28 shots in an 8-7 victory over Tampa Bay on Sunday. The Capitals have lost four of their past five games while being outscored 19-13.

Malenstyn snapped a five-game point drought with the tally. He also fought for the second game in a row. Tuch skated in his 600th regular-season game, and he marked the occasion with a goal at 5:39 of the first period to put the Sabres ahead 2-0. The 29-year-old winger now has 195 goals in his career, so he could knock out another milestone before the end of the campaign. He has six goals and three assists during a seven-game point streak, giving him 28 tallies, 57 points, 155 shots on net, 74 blocked shots, 69 hits, 49 PIM and a plus-18 rating through 64 outings this season.

Sabres' Jack Quinn: Scoring outburst sets career firsts
Quinn scored a hat trick and had an assist in a 6-3 win over the Sharks on Tuesday.
It was Quinn's first hattie and first four-point game in the NHL. He ended a 12-game goal drought. Quinn's teammates were raving to reporters about the forward after the game: "Every practice, every day, he's in here in the shooting room working on his game," said Beck Malenstyn. "He has such a knack for scoring, such a gift to be able to do it. He contorts his body in ways that I think my back would go out if I tried to, and what he can put on the puck is just incredible." Quinn had been quiet since the break, putting up just two assists in seven games prior to Tuesday. Overall, the winger has 15 goals, 28 assists and 141 shots in 65 games. That puts him on pace where he could finish with a career-best 55 points this season.

Sabres' Tyson Kozak: Remains shelved Tuesday
