  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Gets starting nod versus Knights

Oettinger will be between the pipes against Vegas on the road Friday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.

Oettinger has struggled for wins of late, going 3-2-0 despite a 2.83 GAA and .899 save percentage. Still, the backstop trails only Connor Hellebuyck (16) for the league lead in victories and should still be in the mix for the Vezina Trophy at the end of the campaign. Oettinger will no doubt continue to benefit from a defense that is allowing just 27.2 shots per game (fifth-fewest in the NHL).

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Fifth straight win

Oettinger made 27 saves in a 4-2 win over the Lightning on Saturday.

Both goals that got past him were second-chance rebounds that his defensemen were beaten to by Anthony Cirelli. The win was Oettinger's fifth consecutive victory, and he's now 11-3-0 this season. Those 11 wins are second only to Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck as tops in the NHL. Oettinger carries a heavy workload in Dallas, but Casey DeSmith is an above-average backup who wins. Watch for the Stars to consider some load management for Oettinger later in the season, so he's ready for the postseason. But not right now -- he's as hot as they come.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Stands tall in win

Oettinger stopped 22 of 23 shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Wild.

Oettinger didn't face a lot of pressure early on. He gave up a goal to Kirill Kaprizov in the third period but held the fort after that to preserve the lead. This was Oettinger's third win in a row, and he's allowed exactly one goal in three of his last five outings. The 25-year-old netminder is now 9-3-0 with a 2.27 GAA and a .917 save percentage through 12 games this season. The Stars' next two games are home matchups versus the Ducks on Monday and the Sharks on Wednesday. Given the quality of those opponents, it wouldn't be surprising for Casey DeSmith to draw a start for one of those contests, especially since Oettinger has played a season-high five games in a row.
