Bruins' Joonas Korpisalo: Needed in relief in Ottawa
Korpisalo turned aside 15 of 16 shots after replacing Jeremy Swayman to begin the second period of Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Senators.
Puck luck went against Boston most of the night, and the goal against Korpisalo was no exception. A shot by Thomas Chabot from the blue line sailed past the Bruins' net but took a funny bounce off the end boards and came out on the opposite side than what Korpisalo anticipated, giving Drake Batherson a wide-open cage. The veteran goaltender has given up nine goals on 93 shots (.903 save percentage) over four appearances since the beginning of February, and with the Bruins trying to stay in the wild-card picture in the Eastern Conference, Korpisalo might see his workload increase if Swayman's struggles continue.

Bruins' Joonas Korpisalo: Stuck with loss Thursday
Korpisalo turned aside 20 shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
The Bruins never led on the night, but Korpisalo nearly got the game to OT and earned a point for his team -- until Nikita Zadorov whiffed on a clearing attempt inside the final minute of regulation and put the puck right on Seth Jarvis' stick for the game-winner. The veteran goalie hasn't seen a lot of work behind Jeremy Swayman in the new year, and over eight outings since the beginning of January, Korpisalo has gone 3-3-1 with a 3.02 GAA and an .893 save percentage.

Korpisalo had a 2-1 lead to protect after two periods and failed to do so, giving up a pair of goals, including a shortie, in the third. The 30-year-old has lost in regulation in consecutive games for the first time this season, allowing a total of eight goals on 49 shots in those contests. He's now at 9-6-2 with a 2.86 GAA and an .892 save percentage over 19 outings in the backup role behind Jeremy Swayman. This was likely Korpisalo's last start before the 4 Nations Face-Off -- the Bruins play just once more prior to the break when they host the Golden Knights on Saturday.
