  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Heartbreaking shootout loss

Tarasov made 26 saves in regulation and overtime and turned aside two of three shootout attempts in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Rangers. The 25-year-old went toe-to-toe with Igor Shesterkin to earn Tarasov's first shutout of the season, but Tarasov made the lone mistake by either goalie on the night, getting beaten low to his blocker side by Vincent Trocheck in the shootout. Tarasov has looked better since his conditioning stint in the AHL, allowing only two goals on 51 shots while starting two of the last three games. Elvis Merzlikins is 7-2-1 over his last 10 outings but with a lackluster 3.04 GAA and .894 save percentage, so the door could be open for Tarasov to work his way into a timeshare in the Columbus crease.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Between pipes Saturday

Tarasov will be in the visiting blue paint against the Rangers on Saturday, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic. Tarasov picked up his fourth win of the season Tuesday, stopping 23 shots in a 3-2 shootout win over Philadelphia. Tarasov is 4-6-1 with a 3.99 GAA and an .862 save percentage across 11 outings this season. The Rangers are averaging 2.93 goals per game this season, 19th in the NHL.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Snags win in return

Tarasov stopped 23 shots in regulation and overtime and both shootout attempts he faced in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Flyers. In his return from a conditioning stint at AHL Cleveland, Tarasov was able to record his first NHL win since Oct. 22. The 25-year-old netminder still wasn't exactly sharp, however -- Philadelphia's second goal came on a shot from long range by Owen Tippett in the third period that Tarasov got a fairly clean look at. Tarasov is 4-6-1 on the season with a 3.99 GAA and .862 save percentage, and he would seem to be little threat to Elvis Merzlikins' spot at the top of the Columbus depth chart.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Set to start versus Philadelphia

Tarasov will defend the home crease against the Flyers on Tuesday, according to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. Tarasov was recalled from his conditioning stint with AHL Cleveland on Sunday. The 25-year-old hasn't made a start in the NHL since Dec. 28, and he hasn't won a game since Oct. 22. Columbus will have the rest advantage Tuesday -- Philadelphia is on the second half of a back-to-back.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Back from conditioning loan

Tarasov was recalled from his conditioning assignment with AHL Cleveland on Sunday. Columbus assigned Jet Greaves to the minors in a corresponding move. During his conditioning stint, Tarasov surrendered six goals on 65 shots in two AHL outings en route to a 1-1-0 record. He has a 3-6-1 record with a 4.23 GAA and an .857 save percentage in 10 NHL appearances this season. Tarasov will probably continue to occupy the backup role behind Elvis Merzlikins.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Reassigned for conditioning

Tarasov was sent down to AHL Cleveland on a conditioning assignment Friday. Tarasov has appeared in just two of the Jackets' last 25 contests. Even when he does get opportunities, the 25-year-old netminder has struggled, going 0-5-1 with a 4.86 GAA in his last six NHL appearances. The Monsters will face AHL Laval on Friday and Saturday, so look for Tarasov to start at least one of those contests. In the meantime, Jet Greaves was recalled from the minors and figures to serve as the No. 2 option behind Elvis Merzlikins for the time being.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Gets no help in loss

Tarasov stopped 24 of 28 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Bruins. Tarasov played for the first time since Dec. 5, but that long gap between appearances didn't help to end his skid. He's lost six straight outings (0-5-1) while giving up at least three goals in each of those games. Tarasov is now 3-6-1 with a 4.23 GAA and an .857 save percentage over 10 starts this season. Elvis Merzlikins is likely to continue starting most of the time for the Blue Jackets, and Jet Greaves could be called up for spot starts on occasion until Tarasov gets back on track.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Guarding road goal

Tarasov is expected to start on the road against Boston on Saturday, per Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site. Tarasov is getting his first start since Dec. 5 when he stopped 30 of 36 shots in a 6-3 loss to Edmonton. He has a 3-5-1 record, 4.25 GAA and .857 save percentage in nine outings this season. The Bruins are tied for 26th in goals per game with 2.62.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Poor showing in loss

Tarasov allowed six goals on 37 shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Oilers. Tarasov couldn't rise to the occasion on a night where the Oilers' best players looked the part. This was Tarasov's first action since Nov. 16, though he missed some time due to an illness in that span. He's now lost his last five appearances (0-4-1), allowing 25 goals in that span. For the season, the 25-year-old netminder has a 3-5-1 record with a 4.26 GAA and an .858 save percentage. If his performance doesn't improve soon, Jet Greaves may get a longer look in the backup role behind Elvis Merzlikins, who is likely to start Friday in Vancouver.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Suiting up Sunday

Tarasov (illness) is expected to return to the lineup as Elvis Merzlikins' backup in Sunday's road game versus Chicago. Tarasov sat out Friday's 5-2 win over Calgary. However, the Blue Jackets returned Jet Greaves to AHL Cleveland on Saturday, paving the way for Tarasov's return. The 25-year-old Tarasov has a 3-4-1 record with a 4.04 GAA and an .861 save percentage in eight appearances this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Struggles continue Saturday

Tarasov turned aside 25 shots in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Canadiens. The 25-year-old netminder kept things close through two periods, but the Blue Jackets' defense fell apart in the third and Tarasov gave up three goals in less than five minutes as the Habs blew the game open. Tarasov has made eight starts this season and given up four goals or more in five of them, leaving him with a 4.03 GAA and .861 save percentage to go along with a 3-4-1 record.

Tarasov will defend the road crease in Montreal on Saturday, according to Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site. Tarasov is 3-3-1 with a 3.88 GAA and an .865 save percentage in seven appearances this season. He has allowed 14 goals on 84 shots in his last three starts. Tarasov will get a chance to redeem himself against a Montreal team averaging 2.71 goals per game this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Takes another loss

Tarasov stopped 26 of 29 shots in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Ducks. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Tarasov has allowed 14 goals over his last three outings, going 0-2-1 in that span. The 25-year-old has been outplayed by Elvis Merzlikins, though both goalies have struggled in November. Tarasov is now at a 3-3-1 record with a 3.88 GAA and an .865 save percentage through seven outings, and he'll likely have to settle for backup duties until his performance improves.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Scorched in loss

Tarasov turned aside 15 of 22 shots in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Capitals. The Capitals scored on their first three shots and put five on Tarasov in the first period alone. The 25-year-old has given up three or more goals in five of his six starts this season despite posting a 3-2-1 record over that span, making him a risky fantasy play at this time.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Squanders leads, loses in overtime

Tarasov allowed four goals on 33 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Predators. Tarasov let leads of 2-0 and 3-2 slip away, and Jonathan Marchessault completed Nashville's comeback in overtime. Tarasov has given up at least four goals in three of his five outings this season. The 25-year-old netminder is 3-1-1, but the Blue Jackets have been a bit questionable defensively despite an impressive display of 27 goals in seven games. A tough test is up next as Columbus hosts Edmonton on Monday.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Escapes with second win Thursday

Tarasov stopped 20 shots in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Sabres. The Blue Jackets never trailed in the game, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but Tarasov's play didn't let his team get too comfortable either. The 25-year-old has won each of his first two starts this season, but he's given up eight goals on 54 shots and needed plenty of offensive support each time. With Elvis Merzlikins (upper body) banged up at the moment, Jet Greaves could get a turn between the pipes for Saturday's home game against the Wild.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Slated to start Thursday

Tarasov is in the starter's crease at morning skate, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports, and is expected to patrol the home crease versus Buffalo on Thursday. Tarasov gave up four goals on 30 shots in a victory over Colorado on Saturday, his first appearance of the season. The 25-year-old will take on the Sabres, who have averaged 2.60 goals-per-game over five contests. Tarasov will be backed up by Jet Greaves as Elvis Merzlikins is out of action with an upper-body injury.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Allows four goals in win

Tarasov stopped 26 of 30 shots in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Avalanche. The Blue Jackets couldn't hold onto a pair of early two-goal leads, but they were able to pull away for good in the second period. Given the quality of the opponent, Tarasov put together a decent performance in his first start of the campaign. Tarasov had a rough preseason and still appears to be the Blue Jackets' No. 2 option in goal, though the gap between him and Elvis Merzlikins isn't large. The Blue Jackets' next game is at home Tuesday versus the Panthers.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Starting in Colorado

Tarasov will guard the road goal Saturday versus the Avalanche, according to Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch. Tarasov will make his season debut after Elvis Merzlikins gave up three goals on 26 shots in a 3-2 loss to Minnesota on Thursday to open the year. Last campaign, the 25-year-old Tarasov made 45 saves in a 4-1 win over Colorado on April 1.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Woeful showing Friday

Tarasov gave up seven goals on 25 shots in Friday's 7-3 preseason loss to the Penguins. Tarasov has been downright atrocious in the preseason and has allowed 13 goals on 68 shots across three starts. Even though he opened training camp competing for the starting role, all signs point to Elvis Merzlikins opening the year in that role. Tarasov went 8-11-3 with a .908 save percentage and a 3.18 GAA in 24 regular-season appearances in 2023-24.
