Devils' Jake Allen: Shaky in Saturday's loss
Allen stopped 26 shots in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Capitals.
While there wasn't much the veteran netminder could do on Washington's three power-play tallies in the second period, the eventual game-winning goal in the third was largely Allen's fault. He attempted to handle the puck behind his own net on a dump-in, coughed it up to Aliaksei Protas and could only watch helplessly as Pierre-Luc Dubois took advantage of the wide-open cage. The six goals allowed weren't even a season high for Allen -- he coughed up eight against the Lightning on Oct. 22 -- but on the season he still has a respectable 2.70 GAA and .903 save percentage in nine appearances to go along with a 5-3-1 record.

Devils' Jake Allen: Defending crease Saturday
Allen will protect the home net versus Washington on Saturday, according to Daniel Amoia of The Hockey Writers.
Allen will get the second half of New Jersey's back-to-back after Jacob Markstrom played in Friday's 5-4 win over Detroit. The 34-year-old Allen has won his last two outings, including a 23-save performance in a 3-2 triumph over the Capitals last Saturday. He has a 5-2-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.26 GAA and a .916 save percentage through eight appearances this season. Washington ranks first in the league with 4.13 goals per game in 2024-25.

Devils' Jake Allen: Solid in road victory
Allen allowed two goals on 25 shots in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Capitals.
Allen allowed one goal at even strength and one on the power play, but he was able to shut the door on the Caps to pick up his third win in his last four starts. The veteran netminder hasn't conceded more than two goals in any of those four appearances, all of which have come in November. Allen allowed 12 goals across his last two outings of October, so he appears to have turned a corner in his first full season as a Devil. The 34-year-old is up to a 5-2-1 record, .921 save percentage and 2.26 GAA through eight appearances.

Devils' Jake Allen: Starting against Capitals
Allen will protect the road goal versus the Capitals on Saturday, Catherine Bogart of the Devils' official site reports.
Allen has allowed just three goals on 85 shots over his last three outings, winning two of those games. The Capitals have averaged 4.16 goals per game this season, but they are far less intimidating without Alex Ovechkin (lower leg) in the lineup.

Devils' Jake Allen: Had kitties' number all night long
Allen made 25 saves in a 6-2 win over Florida on Thursday.
He came into the game with a 2-8-0 record, 4.86 GAA and .865 save percentage against Florida, but he had the kitties' number all night long. Allen is 4-2-1 with two shutouts in seven starts overall this season (2.30 GAA and .916 save percentage). He's a consistently strong backup who should be deployed whenever he's in the blue paint.

Devils' Jake Allen: First goalie off Thursday
Allen was the first goalie to leave the ice Thursday, Devils play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin reports, indicating he'll tend the twine on the road versus the Panthers.
Allen has been used sparingly this season, logging just six games in which he posted a 3-2-1 record with a 2.35 GAA and two shutouts. Still, the veteran netminder's numbers are the best he's put up since 2019-20 when he was with St. Louis and registered a 2.15 GAA. If he can continue to perform well, he could grab a few starts away from Jacob Markstrom -- though he is unlikely to ever take over as the No. 1 option.

Devils' Jake Allen: On wrong end of shutout
Allen stopped 26 of 27 shots in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Sharks.
Allen was good, but Mackenzie Blackwood was better, posting a 44-save shutout against his former team. This was the fourth time in six outings Allen has allowed one goal or fewer, so he's a bit unlucky to be 3-2-1 on the year. He's added a 2.35 GAA and a .914 save percentage. He will continue to serve as backup to Jacob Markstrom, but it looks like Allen will play slightly more often than just in back-to-back sets -- he hasn't gone more than three games without an appearance.

Devils' Jake Allen: Facing Sharks
Allen will protect the home net Sunday versus San Jose, per Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Allen will get the second half of New Jersey's back-to-back after Jacob Markstrom played in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Islanders. The 34-year-old Allen is coming off a 31-save shutout win over Edmonton on Monday. He has a 3-1-1 record with a 2.60 GAA and a .904 save percentage across five appearances this campaign. San Jose sits 31st in the league with 2.40 goals per game in 2024-25.

Devils' Jake Allen: Posts 31-save shutout
Allen stopped 31 shots en route to a shutout in Monday's 3-0 win over the Oilers.
Allen delivered an impressive outing, which is something he desperately needed after conceding a combined 12 goals on 67 shots over his previous two appearances. Allen's been all over the place in the early going -- in addition to those two rough starts, he also posted a 20-save shutout against Utah on Oct. 14 and stopped 17 of 18 shots en route to a 3-1 win over Buffalo on Oct. 5. He should continue to operate as Jacob Markstrom's backup, meaning he won't see steady work between the pipes any time soon. After Allen's previous shutout, he still warmed the bench for New Jersey's subsequent three games, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Devils go back to Markstrom for Thursday's home tilt against Montreal.

Devils' Jake Allen: Gets starting nod Monday
Allen will be between the road pipes versus Edmonton on Monday, Devils play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin reports.
Allen is coming off a pair of disappointing outings in which he conceded a combined 12 goals on 67 shots (.821 save percentage). For now, the Devils will likely let Allen work through any issues since he shouldn't see a ton of work behind Jacob Markstrom, but the team could eventually decide to recall Nico Daws from the minors if Allen's numbers don't improve.

Devils' Jake Allen: Loses in overtime
Allen stopped 26 of 30 shots in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders.
Allen has allowed 12 goals over his last two outings after giving up just one tally across his first two starts. The Devils have had the busiest schedule of any team so far, which may explain their shaky defense over the last week. Allen is firmly in the backup role behind Jacob Markstrom, and the former is likely to be on the bench when the Devils host the Ducks on Sunday.

Devils' Jake Allen: Starting Friday
Allen will protect the home crease versus the Islanders on Friday, according to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Allen will try and make amends for his performance Tuesday, when he gave up eight goals on 37 shots in a loss to Tampa Bay. It was Allen's first loss of the season after a pair of wins to start the year. Allen had given up only one goal on 38 shots in his two victories. The Islanders have scored only 14 goals in six games this season.

Devils' Jake Allen: Night to forget
Allen allowed eight goals on 37 shots Tuesday in an 8-5 loss to the Lightning.
What's there to say? The game was tight in the first, but the wheels fell off the team in the second. They picked it up a bit in the third, but it wasn't enough. This was a sleep on it and let it go night for Allen. He can't win them all.

Devils' Jake Allen: Making third start
Allen will guard the home goal versus the Lightning on Tuesday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Allen has allowed just one goal on 38 shots over his first two starts of the year, winning both of them. This will be the 34-year-old's first start outside of a back-to-back set, as Jacob Markstrom started the previous three games. The Lightning have scored 18 goals over their first five contests this season.

Devils' Jake Allen: Blanks Utah on Monday
Allen had a 20-save shutout in Monday's 3-0 win over Utah.
After a scoreless first period, the Devils broke the ice with a Seamus Casey power-play tally early in the second, and it was all the support Allen would need. The 34-year-old netminder recorded his 25th career shutout and first since Feb. 14, 2023, when he was with Montreal. Jacob Markstrom is locked in as the No. 1 goalie, but Allen is looking very comfortable early, allowing just one goal on 38 shots in his first two appearances -- both New Jersey wins.

Devils' Jake Allen: Tending twine Monday
Allen will patrol the home crease Monday against Utah, according to Devils play-by-play announcer Bill Spaulding.
Allen will get the first half of New Jersey's back-to-back, and Jacob Markstrom will play in Tuesday's road start versus Carolina. The 34-year-old Allen stopped 17 shots in a 3-1 win over Buffalo on Oct. 5 during his 2024-25 debut. Utah is tied for the league lead with 16 goals through three games this campaign.

Devils' Jake Allen: Facing Buffalo
Allen will patrol the home crease Saturday against the Sabres, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Allen will get the second half of New Jersey's back-to-back after Jacob Markstrom opened the season with a 30-save performance in Friday's 4-1 win over Buffalo as part of the 2024 NHL Global Series in Prague, Czechia. The 34-year-old Allen posted a 12-18-4 record with a 3.44 GAA and an .895 save percentage across 34 regular-season appearances between the Canadiens and Devils in 2023-24. He will serve as Markstrom's backup during the 2024-25 campaign.

Devils' Jake Allen: Effective in win in Czechia
Allen made 17 saves in a 3-1 win over the Sabres on Saturday as part of the NHL Global Series in Czechia.
Allen wasn't tested much Saturday, with the shots being 37-18 in favor of the Devils. But he was strong when he needed to be. Allen has the skills to be a strong and busy backup behind Jacob Markstrom and a playoff-bound Devils squad. The 34-year-old Allen will be a great daily option who gets upward of 30 starts.
