  • Lions' Jabari Small: Joins Lions

Small signed with the Lions on Friday.

Small spent the 2024 season with the Titans' practice squad after joining the team as an undrafted free agent. He'll battle for a roster spot during training camp but will likely face a tough path with the likes of Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki already serving as depth for Detroit at running back.

  • Lions' Mekhi Wingo: Placed on active/PUP list

Wingo (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday.

The defensive tackle suffered a season-ending knee injury on Thanksgiving Day last year in a win over the Bears. Wingo can technically return in time for the Lions' preseason opener this year against the Chargers on July 31, though that remains a question after he underwent surgery. In 11 games as a rookie, the 2024 sixth rounder played on 162 defensive snaps and 44 special-teams snaps, finishing with nine tackles (one solo).

  • Lions' Malcolm Rodriguez: Heads to active/PUP list

Rodriguez (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday.

Rodriguez is eligible to return from the list at any time throughout training camp and the preseason. However, he tore his ACL last November in a win over the Bears and in June, Detroit coach Dan Campbell estimated that the linebacker could perhaps return by November of this season, per Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com. Rodriguez has not played a starting role since his rookie campaign in 2022.

  • Lions' Miles Frazier: Lands on active/PUP list

Frazier (undisclosed) was put on the active/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday.

Once he's ready to re-take the field, the offensive guard and fifth-round pick can be activated from the list at any time throughout training camp and the preseason. A three-year starter at LSU, Frazier should begin his professional career in a depth role on a strong Lions offensive front.

  • Lions' Khalil Dorsey: Placed on active/PUP list

Dorsey (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday.

Once he's ready to ready to practice, the depth corner and kickoff return man can be activated from the list at any time throughout training camp and the preseason. Dorsey has played mostly on special teams during parts of three NFL seasons with Baltimore and Detroit, though he has accumulated 244 and 159 kickoff return yards, respectively, over the last two campaigns with Detroit. That could be his role again in 2025.

  • Lions' Taylor Decker: Moves to active/PUP list

Decker (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday.

The starting left tackle's injury remains unclear, though it does not appear to be serious given his designation, which allows him to be activated from the list at any time throughout training camp and the preseason. Decker has started all 131 regular-season and postseason games he's played in since being drafted in the first round by the Lions in 2016.

  • Lions' Stantley Thomas-Oliver: Placed on active/NFI list

Thomas-Oliver (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Lions on Thursday.

Once he's ready to return to practice, Thomas-Oliver can be activated from the list at any time throughout training camp and the preseason. The cornerback appeared in one regular-season game and in the Lions' only playoff game in 2024, playing on 21 special-teams snaps and one defensive snap.

  • Lions' Josh Paschal: Placed on active/NFI list

Paschal (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Lions on Thursday.

Once he's ready to resume practice, Paschal can be activated from the list at any time throughout training camp and the preseason. The defensive end took on a starting role last season after Aidan Hutchinson broke his leg in Week 6, though he did deal with a knee injury. A second-round pick in 2022, Paschal has yet to record more than 2.0 sacks in a season, and he is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

  • Lions' Levi Onwuzurike: Placed on reserve/PUP list

Onwuzurike (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday.

The designation means that the defensive tackle will miss the first four regular-season games, assuming he's still on the reserve/PUP list after cut-down day on Aug. 26. Onwuzurike earned a rotation spot last season, playing a career-high 594 defensive snaps and making 28 tackles (16 solo). The 2021 second-round pick signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract to remain with the Lions in March, and he should be in line to play a role again if he's able to return by Week 5.

  • Lions' Alim McNeill: Added to active/PUP list

McNeill (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list Thursday.

McNeill is eligible to return to practice at some point during training camp, though he's not ready to do so yet as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in December. He's the favorite to start at defensive tackle once healthy.

  • Lions' Sam LaPorta: High hopes for new Lions OC

LaPorta said Wednesday that new Lions offensive coordinator John Morton has a "brilliant mind" and should do a great job calling plays, NFL.com's Kevin Patra reports.

This is LaPorta's first time working with Morton, who was an assistant on Ben Johnson's staff in 2022. Morton was Denver's passing-game coordinator the past two years before circling back to Detroit to replace Johnson this winter. The Lions also lost starting center Frank Ragnow (retired) and right guard Keven Zeitler (Titans) this offseason, but they retained all their key skill-position players -- an impressive group led by LaPorta, RB Jahmyr Gibbs, RB David Montgomery, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and WR Jameson Williams. The tough competition likely means LaPorta will see less volume than what he's capable of handling after dropping from 120 targets as a rookie in 2023 to just 83 targets over 16 regular-season games in 2024. He had six or fewer targets in each of his first eight games last season, but he then got six or more targets in nine straight contests to close out the season (including the playoffs), with six TDs during that stretch.
