  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Forgettable playoff start

Dobbins (ankle) took nine carries for 26 yards and failed to bring in his lone target in Saturday's 32-12 playoff loss to the Texans. Dobbins carried a questionable tag into Saturday's wild-card round matchup, but he did not appear limited after leading a dismal rushing attack with nine touches. Veteran backup and longtime teammate Gus Edwards struggled similarly (7-22-0) as the starting duo failed to set the tone against a stout Houston defensive front. The 26-year-old Dobbins is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason after producing a 195-905-9 rushing line in 13 healthy games for Los Angeles in 2024.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Suiting up for playoff opener

Dobbins (ankle) is listed as active for Saturday's wild-card game at Houston. Dobbins was a limited practice participant all week due to an ankle injury, which seemingly was the result of getting tackled awkwardly near the end of the first quarter last Sunday In Las Vegas, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic. The running back was able to finish out the contest en route to 21 touches for 75 yards from scrimmage on a 65 percent snap share, as position mate Gus Edwards (ankle) was sidelined. Edwards himself followed an LP/LP/FP practice regimen this week before heading into the weekend without a designation. With Dobbins confirmed to be available as well, the pair likely will have close to an even split of the backfield reps in the Chargers' playoff opener.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Likely playing Saturday

Dobbins (ankle), who is listed as questionable for Saturday's contest against the Texans, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. It would have been a real surprise if Dobbins would have been unavailable for Los Angeles' playoff game, but it appears that reality won't come to fruition. Official confirmation of the running back's status, either way, is set to arrive once inactives are posted ahead of Saturday's 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Questionable for Saturday

Dobbins is listed as questionable for Saturday's wild-card round game against the Texans. Dobbins was deemed questionable by the Chargers after being listed as a limited practice participant Tuesday through Thursday. Meanwhile, fellow running back Gus Edwards (ankle) -- who has missed two straight games -- doesn't carry an injury designation after practicing fully Thursday. Look for added context regarding Dobbins' status to arrive closer to Saturday's 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff, but if he's limited or out versus Houston, then Edwards would be in line to see added work on early downs, with Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal also in the mix. Additionally, the Chargers could elect to elevate either Ezekiel Elliott or Jaret Patterson from their practice squad.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Limited by ankle injury Tuesday

Dobbins was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice due to an ankle injury. Though the Chargers never announced that Dobbins emerged from this past Sunday's 34-20 win over the Raiders with an injury, Daniel Popper of The Athletic relays that the running back appeared to hurt his leg at the end of a run late in the first quarter, and he was sporting a protective sleeve following the game. Dobbins' appearance on this week's injury report suggests that it was his ankle that he tweaked on the play in question, but his ability to practice in at least a limited fashion Tuesday bodes well for his chances of playing in Saturday's wild-card game in Houston.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Totals 21 touches

Dobbins rushed the ball 18 times for 63 yards in Sunday's 34-20 win over the Raiders. He added three receptions on three targets for 12 yards. Dobbins dominated touches out of the Los Angeles backfield while the game was competitive as Gus Edwards (ankle) remained sidelined. Dobbins had moments of effectiveness despite averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, as he accounted for 30 total yards on five touches on an offensive possession early in the second quarter that resulted in a field goal. He closes the regular season with career-high marks in attempts (195) and rushing yards (905) and projects to at least split work with Edwards in Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Texans.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: May remain top RB on Sunday

Dobbins may be the Chargers' lead running back Sunday at Las Vegas with Gus Edwards (ankle) ruled out for that contest. Following a four-game stint on IR due to a knee injury, Dobbins returned to action this past Saturday at New England to a backfield that also didn't have Edwards' services. Dobbins handled a 53 percent snap share and turned 21 touches into 83 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD, while reserves Hassan Haskins (35 percent, 9-40-0) and Kimani Vidal (11 percent, 5-24-0) also got in the mix. It's possible Dobbins takes on closer to the roughly 70 percent of snaps he handled prior to getting injured Week 12, in which case he'd be closer to a workhorse in Week 18. Having said that, if the Steelers beat the Bengals on Saturday, the Chargers would be locked into the No. 6 seed in the AFC and could opt to scale back Dobbins' workload with his health for the postseason in mind.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: RBs to Start

The Chargers could decide to rest their starters in Week 18 at Las Vegas if the Steelers beat the Bengals on Saturday. But I still expect Dobbins to play some of the game against the Raiders since he needs 58 rushing yards to trigger a $150,000 bonus for reaching 900 yards. And if the Chargers are playing to win for the No. 5 seed in the AFC (Pittsburgh needs to lose to Cincinnati for that to happen), then Dobbins could have a huge game. He just had 15.3 PPR points in Week 17 at New England in his first game back from a four-game absence with a knee injury. And he scored 22.9 PPR points against the Raiders in Week 1. Dobbins could be a top-10 running back in all leagues in Week 18.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Finds end zone in return

Dobbins ran for 76 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries in Saturday's 40-7 win over the Patriots. It was a grinding effort for Dobbins as the Patriots clearly made it a priority to stop him, but Dobbins held up well in his first game back from a four-week knee injury. Not just that, but the Patriots paid dearly for focusing on the run, as Justin Herbert torched them for 281 yards and three touchdowns while completing targets to nine different pass catchers. If the Chargers feed Dobbins against the Raiders in Week 18, he'll be a strong bet to make it two good games in a row, though it's worth noting the team has now clinched a playoff berth.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Activated from IR

The Chargers activated Dobbins (knee) from injured reserve Friday. While technically still listed as questionable, Dobbins presumably wouldn't have been activated from IR unless the team intended for him to play in Saturday's game at the Patriots. He may even handle a large workload from the jump, considering fellow Chargers running back Gus Edwards (ankle) has been ruled out. The Chargers listed Dobbins as a full practice participant Thursday, following limited listings Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Could return to action Saturday

The Chargers list Dobbins (knee) as questionable for Saturday's game against the Patriots. Los Angeles has ruled out Gus Edwards (ankle) for Saturday, but Dobbins' potential return would provide a lift to a Chargers backfield that currently has just two healthy options on the 53-man roster (Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins). After being designated for return from injured reserve Monday, Dobbins was listed as a limited participant in the Chargers' first two Week 17 practices before working fully Friday, which represented his first on-field work since suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee during the team's 30-23 loss to the Ravens on Nov. 25. In order to be eligible to play Saturday, the Chargers would first activate Dobbins from IR ahead of Friday's 4 p.m. ET deadline for Week 17 transactions. If added back to the roster, Dobbins would presumably work as the lead option out of the backfield, while Vidal and Haskins remain in their depth roles.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Practices in limited fashion

Dobbins (knee) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice. Los Angeles opened Dobbins' 21-day practice window Monday, but it wasn't until Tuesday that the team submitted its first Week 17 practice report. The running back is unsurprisingly operating with a cap on his reps as he works his way back from the MCL sprain he suffered Nov. 25, and he'll probably need to upgrade to full participation by Thursday for the Chargers to consider adding him back to the 53-man roster ahead of Saturday's game against the Patriots. During Dobbins' four-game absence, the Chargers have been leaning on Gus Edwards (ankle) -- who was also limited Tuesday -- as the lead option of a three-man backfield committee including Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Set to return to practice

The Chargers are opening Dobbins' (knee) 21-day practice window Monday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports. Dobbins has been on injured reserve since Nov. 30, and he's since missed the required four games. It's not yet clear if the veteran running back will be able to suit up Saturday against New England, and Los Angeles would need to first activate him in order for him to return to the field. Dobbins' level of participation in practice this week should shed some light on the chance of that happening. Gus Edwards has been working as the Chargers' lead back in Dobbins' absence, and though Edwards has largely struggled in the role, he did break through for 68 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries last Thursday versus Denver.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Two touchdowns in win

Dobbins registered 11 carries for 56 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner, in Sunday's 34-27 victory over the Bengals. He also caught his lone target for three yards. Dobbins was bottled up until the team's final play, when the talented running back bounced an inside zone run far left for a 29-yard touchdown with the Bengals likely expecting the Chargers to sit on the ball for a cheap game-winning field goal as time expired. While the 25-year-old did score another touchdown earlier in the day to effectively secure a solid fantasy day, it's worth noting that score came only after Hassan Haskins was given two carries at the one yard line, failing to punch it in either time. Haskins also vultured a touchdown against his former team, the Titans, last week, and Gus Edwards once again saw a decent amount of snaps (six carries, 27 yards), so there appears to be a situational platoon backfield at play despite Haskins' ineffectiveness in particular.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: RBs to Start

I had my doubts about Dobbins going into Week 9 at Cleveland, but I removed him as the Bust Alert prior to Sunday, which proved to be the right move. He dominated the Browns with 14 carries for 85 yards, two touchdowns, and two catches for 20 yards, and he has now scored at least 16.8 PPR points in three of his past four games. The Titans run defense has fallen apart lately, and Tennessee has allowed seven total touchdowns to running backs in the past three games against Buffalo, Detroit, and New England. Dobbins could be in line for a huge game in Week 10.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Stays busy in loss

Dobbins rushed 14 times for 40 yards and brought in all three targets for 26 yards in the Chargers' 17-15 loss to the Cardinals on Monday. Dobbins once again paced the Chargers backfield in carries and rushing yards, although he surprisingly found running room at a premium against what had been a vulnerable Cardinals defense. The veteran running back also tied a season high in receptions while posting his second-highest total of receiving yards, making it a reasonably productive outing overall. Dobbins next takes aim at the struggling Saints in a Week 8 home matchup on Sunday.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Limited production against Chiefs

Dobbins rushed the ball 14 times for 32 yards in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Chiefs. He added three receptions (on four targets) for 30 yards. Dobbins maintained his stronghold on the Chargers backfield, out-touching Gus Edwards 17-6. His efficiency disappeared, however, as he was held to two or fewer yards on nine of his 14 carries. Dobbins now has been bottled up for a combined 76 yards on 29 rush attempts in his last two games, though he's faced two of the better run defenses in the league after squaring off against Pittsburgh in Week 3. Dobbins should continue to have volume on his side when the Chargers return to the field Week 6, and he'll have a better chance of turning in improved efficiency.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

The Chargers starting offensive tackles of Rashawn Slater (pectoral) and Joe Alt (MCL sprain) are expected to miss Week 4, which is bad news for Dobbins. And Justin Herbert (ankle) could be out as well. Dobbins has been fantastic so far this season with two games of at least 20.1 PPR points, and he's stepped up as the No. 1 running back for the Chargers ahead of Gus Edwards. But this is a tough situation for Dobbins with a backup quarterback and an injured offensive line. Along with that, the Chiefs are No. 3 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, so Dobbins is just a flex option at best in Week 4.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Not able to build off big workload

Dobbins carried the ball 15 times for 44 yards and also caught all three of his targets for 10 yards in the 20-10 loss to the Steelers on Sunday. Dobbins' platoon backfield partner, Gus Edwards, saw just three carries in this one as the game plan seemed reliant on Dobbins' shiftiness to make yardage out of nothing. While he was excellent against first contact, the overall offense clearly seemed outmatched against the Steelers, and that became increasingly more apparent after Justin Herbert left in the second half due to an ankle injury. It likely won't get a whole lot easier against the Chiefs next week, especially if star rookie tackle Joe Alt misses time after he suffered a lower-body injury late in the loss.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Electric in season debut

Dobbins tallied 10 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 22-10 win over the Raiders. He also caught all three of his targets for four yards. Dobbins had separate runs of 46 yards and 61 yards in the second half as the run-centric offense finally wore down the Raiders across the final 30 minutes of the contest. The fifth-year running back saw fewer carries than Gus Edwards (11 for 26 yards), but it was clear the scheme called for Dobbins to take the majority of rushes outside, and he also saw an overwhelming majority of the targets out of the backfield. While the 2020 second-round pick was chased down on both of his long runs, his clear burst and acceleration felt reminiscent of his early years with the Ravens before a series of serious knee injuries hurt his career trajectory. Dobbins could be poised for another heavy workload against a Panthers defense that allowed 47 points in Week 1.
