  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Set up for more starts

The Jaguars placed Trevor Lawrence (head) on injured reserve Wednesday, leaving Jones as the top quarterback on the active roster. Lawrence technically could return from injured reserve for Week 18, but it's probably not a consideration, as there'd been discussion of season-ending surgery on his left shoulder before he suffered a concussion during Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Texans. Jones played well in relief of Lawrence on Sunday, after struggling mightily in previous two games when Lawrence was inactive and Jones was the starter. The Jaguars could eventually turn to CJ Beathard but figure to stick with Jones for now, putting the former New England Patriot under center for Sunday's game against Tennessee.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Week 14 Waiver Priority List

Jones will likely start for the Jaguars in Week 14 at Tennessee after Trevor Lawrence (concussion) was injured in Week 13 against Houston. Jones came on against the Texans and scored 24 Fantasy points, and the matchup with the Titans is favorable. The Jaguars then close the season with the Jets in Week 15, the Raiders in Week 16 and the Titans again in Week 17. Jones should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for at least 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Impressive in emergency duty

Jones replaced Trevor Lawrence (concussion) with 3:57 remaining in the second quarter of the Jaguars' 23-20 loss to the Texans on Sunday and completed 20 of 32 passes for 235 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed three times for six yards, recovered a fumble and threw a two-point conversion pass. Jones got off to a slow start reminiscent of his lackluster two-game starting stint in Weeks 10 and 11, but he built momentum over the course of the second half and nearly rallied the Jaguars via a pair of fourth-quarter scoring tosses to Parker Washington (22 yards) and Brian Thomas (six yards). Jones seemingly is slated for at least one more start at the very minimum in a Week 14 road matchup against the Titans, and given the state of Jacksonville's season and Lawrence's value to the franchise, the former could well remain under center for what remains of the campaign.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Returning to backup role

Jones will serve as the Jaguars' backup quarterback in Sunday's game against the Texans with Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) having been cleared to start after missing the previous two contests, Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports. While Lawrence could still require offseason surgery to address an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder, the quarterback looks on track to play through the issue over the final six games of the season after he responded well during a trio of limited practices this week. Jones had filled in for Lawrence as Jacksonville's starter in the two games prior to the team's Week 12 bye, completing 31 of 51 pass attempts (60.8 percent) for 249 yards (4.9 YPA), no touchdowns and three interceptions in losses to the Vikings and Lions. Despite the pair of poor showings, Jones will at least retain the No. 2 job ahead of C.J. Beathard, who is inactive for the Week 13 contest.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Another forgettable spot start

Jones completed 17 of 29 passes for 138 yards with no touchdowns and one interception while adding two rushes for seven yards in the Jaguars' 52-6 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Making his second straight spot start for Trevor Lawrence (shoulder), Jones was essentially as ineffective as he had been in Week 10 against the Vikings, with the exception being he threw one fewer interception. Otherwise, the 2021 first-round pick was completely incapable of helping the Jaguars keep up with a juggernaut of a Lions offense that failed to score only on a meaningless end-of-game drive. Jones unsurprisingly focused most of his attention on Brian Thomas and Evan Engram, but he figures to revert to a backup role for a Week 13 home matchup against the Texans on Sunday, Dec. 1 since Lawrence will likely have enough time to get healthy over the Week 12 bye.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Starting for Lawrence again Sunday

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Jones will start Sunday's game against the Lions in Detroit, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. With Pederson ruling Trevor Lawrence out for a second straight game, Jones will get another opportunity to direct the offense, despite struggling to lead productive drives in his first extended action with the Jaguars in Week 10. Jones completed 14 of 22 passes for 111 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in last Sunday's 12-7 loss to the Vikings, committing three turnovers in total after also losing a fumble. The matchup with a Lions defense that hasn't been as strong against the pass (6.5 yards per attempt allowed) or in generating pressure (24 sacks in nine games) as Minnesota is a slightly more favorable one for Jones, but he still profiles as a low-end fantasy option, given his lack of rushing ability and the relatively muted passing production he's shown over his 43 career starts between New England and Jacksonville. Per Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union, Pederson said Tuesday that he has optimism Lawrence will be able to return following the Jaguars' Week 12 bye, so Jones' run as a starter could come to an end after Sunday.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Week 11 Waiver Priority List

There's a chance that Jones could start for the Jaguars for the rest of the season if the team decides to shut down Trevor Lawrence (shoulder). In that scenario, Jones would be worth adding in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB. He only scored 5.2 Fantasy points in Week 10 against Minnesota, but if Jones starts for the Jaguars, then he could be a bye-week or injury replacement in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Abysmal showing in loss

Jones completed 14 of 22 passes for 111 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 12-7 loss to the Vikings. He added five rushes for eight yards and a touchdown. Jones drew his first start with the Jaguars due to Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) being sidelined. He got off to a strong start, as Jones went 4-for-4 for 48 yards while sneaking into the end zone for a touchdown on Jacksonville's opening possession. However, things went downhill thereafter, and the QB threw an interception that concluded the team's final chance to win the game late in the fourth quarter. Lawrence practiced in a limited capacity throughout the week, meaning he could return for a Week 11 matchup against the Lions, which would return Jones to the bench.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Sharp in preseason start

Jones completed 16 of 23 passes for 210 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added six rushes for 14 yards in the Jaguars' 20-7 preseason win over the Buccaneers. Jones started and played the entire first half and returned for the fourth quarter after C.J. Beathard (groin) got injured. The 2021 first-round pick of the Patriots, who's looking for a career reset in Jacksonville as Trevor Lawrence's backup, was impressive throughout, and he connected with Parker Washington (25 yards) and Brevin Easton (31 yards) for his pair of touchdown tosses. The two scoring drives spanned 17 and eight plays, confidence-building marches that Jones was able to navigate without turnovers. Jones is likely to see a solid amount of playing time once again in the preseason finale against the Falcons in Atlanta on Friday night.

  • Jaguars' Mac Jones: Bound for Jacksonville

The Jaguars will finalize a trade Sunday to acquire Jones from the Patriots in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round draft pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal won't become official until the new league year begins Wednesday, but assuming Jones is able to pass a physical, the Jacksonville native will join his hometown team heading into his fourth NFL season. Though he served as a 42-game starter over his three seasons in New England, Jones slid to third on the depth chart by the end of the 2023 campaign and finished his tenure with the Patriots with a 66.1 completion percentage for 6.8 yards per attempt and a 46:36 TD:INT. He'll give the Jaguars an experienced backup option behind Trevor Lawrence, who thus far has proven durable in his young career with just one missed game over three seasons. Expect the Jaguars to decline Jones' pricey fifth-year option on his rookie contract this spring, which will make the 25-year-old signal-caller eligible for free agency following the 2024 season.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Logs 2,120 passing yards in 2023

Jones appeared in 11 games during the 2023 season, completing 224 of 345 pass attempts (64.9 percent) for 2,120 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 96 rushing yards on 26 carries. Jones, who was supplanted as the Patriots' starting quarterback in Week 13 by Bailey Zappe, finished his third NFL season as a healthy inactive in the Patriots' Week 18 loss to the Jets. Per Evan Lazar of the team's official site,, Jones is unlikely to have his fifth-year contract option exercised by New England this offseason. Jones will still remain on the Patriots' books through 2024, but it's unclear if he'll be given a chance to compete for the starting gig during the upcoming season. Lazar suggests that the signal-caller could be dealt this offseason and thus get a fresh start in a new locale.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Third QB on Sunday

Jones (coach's decision) was designated the Patriots' inactive third QB for Sunday's game against the Jets. As a result, Nathan Rourke will serve as Bailey Zappe's top backup in the Patriots' season finale. Jones last saw game action in the team's Week 12 loss to the Giants.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Could give way to Zappe

Jones wasn't seen attempting passes during the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, while Bailey Zappe logged multiple reps at quarterback and was followed in drills by practice-squad member Malik Cunningham, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Head coach Bill Belichick has declined to name a starting quarterback for this weekend's game against the Chargers, but based on what transpired during the initial stages of Wednesday's practice, Zappe -- who replaced Jones after halftime during the Patriots' 10-7 loss to the Giants on Sunday -- may be the frontrunner for the assignment. Jones has started all 11 games for the 2-9 Patriots this season, but he's been pulled early in four of those contests.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Replaced after first half

Jones was replaced by Bailey Zappe to begin the second half of Sunday's game against the Giants, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports. Leading up to the contest, the Patriots didn't publicly name a starting QB, but Jones ended up getting the nod and playing the entire first half. In the process, the 2021 first-rounder completed 12 of 21 passing attempts for 89 yards and two interceptions. With the signal-caller pivot Sunday, it remains to be seen who helms the team's offense in Week 13, but if Zappe looks sharp versus the Giants it could earn him another look against the Chargers next weekend.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Poised for Week 12 start

Jones took reps with the first-team offense during pregame warmups and appears in line to start Sunday's game against the Giants, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. Though head coach Bill Belichick never offered confirmation on a Week 12 starting quarterback coming out of a bye week, the Patriots appear poised to stick with Jones, who was benched for New England's final possession of a Week 10 loss to Indianapolis. Jones has completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 6.3 yards per attempt and a 10:10 TD:INT through his first 10 starts this season, so he could be on a short leash Sunday if he struggles early on. The possibility also exists that the Patriots deploy some sort of quarterback timeshare arrangement between Jones and Bailey Zappe, as both signal-callers reportedly received first-team reps in practice this week, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Jones and Zappe are the only two signal-callers active for the Patriots after the team waived Will Grier on Saturday.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Avoids Week 12 injury report

Jones isn't included on the Patriots' initial Week 12 injury report released Wednesday after he suffered an unspecified bruise in New England's 10-6 loss to Indianapolis in Week 10. Though Jones was sent in for X-rays after he didn't take the field for the Patriots' final possession of the Nov. 12 loss to the Colts in Germany, the injury was never viewed as the primary cause of his absence. Instead, the Patriots' decision to go with Bailey Zappe -- who ended up throwing game-sealing interception -- late in the fourth quarter seemed to be a result of Jones being benched for performance-related reasons. While the Patriots were on bye this past week, head coach Bill Belichick was non-committal on the team's plans at quarterback moving forward, and the team has yet to name a starter for Sunday's game against the Giants as Week 12 prep gets underway. Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Jones appeared to be the first quarterback taking reps during Tuesday's unofficial practice session, though Zappe saw a significant share of the snaps behind him. Will Grier also lingers on the roster as a third option at quarterback, and at this stage, it's conceivable that any of the three could draw the Week 12 start as the 2-8 Patriots look to put an end to a three-game losing streak.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Undergoes X-rays after loss

Jones underwent X-rays following Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Colts in Germany, after he said he suffered a bruise, Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal reports. The nature of the injury isn't known, but perhaps of more import is the fact Jones was benched in favor of backup quarterback Bailey Zappe for the Patriots' final possession of the game. The reason likely was a back-breaking interception from Jones in the red zone with 4:24 remaining in the contest, and he finished with a paltry 170 yards and no touchdowns on 15-for-20 passing. Considering the overall situation, it'll be something to monitor to see if Jones or Zappe will be directing New England's offense after the team's Week 11 bye on Sunday, Nov. 26 at the Giants.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Another clunker in Week 9 loss

Jones completed 24 of 44 passes for 220 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Commanders. He added three rushing yards on three attempts. Jones had Tyquan Thornton open but missed him on fourth down to end New England's opening drive in Washington territory. After failing to produce any points in the first quarter, Jones bounced back with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Henry in the second to put the Patriots on the board. Outside of that throw, Jones was largely inaccurate and inefficient, as he tied his season low with just 5.0 yards per attempt. Despite those struggles, Jones had New England in range for a game-tying field goal at Washington's 41-yard line but was picked off with 30 seconds left to end it. After this putrid performance, calls for Bailey Zappe to replace Jones under center could renew as the 2-7 Patriots prepare to face the Colts in Frankfurt in Week 10.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Sleeper QBs

It will take some guts to start Jones this week, but he's worth the gamble in deeper one-quarterback leagues. Even though Jones just lost his No. 1 receiver in Kendrick Bourne (ACL), the Commanders parted ways Tuesday with both of their top pass rushers in Chase Young (San Francisco) and Montez Sweat (Chicago) at the trade deadline. With those two, Washington was still No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and Jones has thrown two touchdowns in each of his past two games against Buffalo and Miami.

  • Patriots' Mac Jones: Pair of touchdowns in loss

Jones completed 19 of 29 passes for 161 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while also netting minus-2 yards on his only carry in the Patriots' 31-17 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. Jones struggled to generate much production downfield, leading to a modest 5.6 yards per attempt for the third-year pro. Jones was able to produce his second straight two-touchdown performance and third multi-score tally of the season by hitting Kendrick Bourne (knee) and JuJu Smith-Schuster for touchdown passes of 24 and three yards, respectively. However, he also failed to reach the 200-yard mark for the third time this season, certainly not a recipe for success when facing the Dolphins' high-octane air attack. Jones and the Patriots next welcome in the Commanders for a Week 9 interconference battle.
