  • Giants' Drew Lock: No starter named for Week 14 yet

Giants coach Brian Daboll said Friday that he doesn't know if Lock or Tommy DeVito (forearm) will start at quarterback in Week 14 against the Saints, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports. Lock filled in as the starter for an injured DeVito on Thursday, committing two turnovers while throwing for 178 yards on 32 attempts in a 27-20 loss at Dallas. Lock ended up with a decent fantasy score thanks to four rush attempts for 57 yards and a TD, but his pick-six and lost fumble made it challenging for the Giants to win. DeVito may thus step back in as the starter once he's deemed healthy enough to play.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Disappoints in spot start

Lock completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added four rushes for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' 27-20 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday. He also lost a fumble. Lock got his sought-after chance for a start with Tommy DeVito (forearm) sidelined, but the veteran signal-caller ultimately produced middling results with his Thanksgiving opportunity. Lock's afternoon did start off in promising fashion, as he led a 13-play, 70-yard march on the Giants' first possession that culminated with a Tyrone Tracy touchdown run. However, Lock threw a pick-six on the next drive and subsequently lost a fumble on the first possession of the second half, which led to another Cowboys score. Lock did cap off the Giants' last possession of the day with an eight-yard touchdown run, but New York never got the ball back. Thursday may have well represented Lock's only starting opportunity for now, considering DeVito should be ready to play by the time a Week 14 home matchup against the Saints on Sunday, Dec. 8 rolls around.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Starting for DeVito on Thursday

Lock will start Thursday's game at Dallas, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, with Tommy DeVito (forearm) inactive as the Giants' emergency third QB. The will he or won't he situation with DeVito now has been clarified as he deals with a sore right forearm. With DeVito sidelined, Lock will earn his 24th career start but first as a member of the Giants. In the other 23 between the Broncos and Seahawks, Lock averaged 203 yards per game on 60.4 percent passing with a 27:20 TD:INT, rushed 75 times for 290 yards and five touchdowns and fumbled 11 times (four lost).

  • Giants' Drew Lock: In line to start Thursday

Lock is expected to be the Giants' starting quarterback Thursday in Dallas with Tommy DeVito (forearm) unlikely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The tide has changed multiple times for DeVito this week as he tends to soreness in his right forearm, but this report from Rapoport indicates Lock will get the spot start for the Giants in Week 13. In three appearances this season, Lock has completed four of nine passes for nine yards and recorded a 13-yard carry.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Start not guaranteed Thursday

Lock may not start in place of Tommy DeVito (forearm) in Thursday's game at Dallas, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reported earlier Wednesday that DeVito was a longshot to play Week 13, Lock became the favorite to draw the start for the Giants on Thursday. Rapoport relays that DeVito underwent an MRI on his right forearm Wednesday to determine if something may have been missed on his initial medical tests, but the quarterback is still scheduled to make the trip to Dallas. The team plans to have DeVito throw before Thursday's game to see if there's less discomfort than there has been the past few days, and if all goes well, he would get the start instead of Lock. Ultimately, a decision on the Giants' plans at quarterback will likely be announced when the team releases its inactive list 90 minutes before a 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Remains No. 2 quarterback

Head coach Brian Daboll announced Monday that Lock will serve as the backup to starting quarterback Tommy DeVito beginning with Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, while Daniel Jones moves to the No. 3 spot on the depth chart after starting each of the team's first 10 games. Though Lock has served as the top backup to Jones all season, he'll stick in the No. 2 role while DeVito climbs from the bottom of the depth chart to the top. While Daboll declined to offer many specifics behind the changing of the guard at quarterback, the decision to bypass Lock for the starting nod is likely related to the signal-caller's contract, which contains multiple playing-time and performance-based incentives. Jones, meanwhile, has a contract that contains a $23 million guarantee for 2025 if he's unable to pass a physical in March, and with the Giants seemingly no longer viewing him as their franchise quarterback, the team will avoid exposing him to injury over the final seven games of the season by making him a healthy inactive. Lock is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, which is another possible factor in the team's decision to start DeVito, who is two years younger and is likelier than Lock to be part of the roster in 2025.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Week 11 Waiver Priority List

The Giants could decide to bench Daniel Jones coming off their bye in Week 11, and either Lock or Tommy DeVito (1 percent) would take over as the starter. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, it's worth taking a flier on Lock first but also DeVito in deeper formats. Whoever starts for the Giants if Jones is benched is worth using in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues as an injury or bye-week replacement and is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Suiting up Sunday

Lock (abdomen) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's Week 1 game against the Vikings, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Lock has been dealing with this abdomen issue for about a month, but it appears the injury won't stop him from suiting up for the Giants' regular-season opener Sunday. In his first campaign with New York, the 2019 second-round pick is expected to serve as the Giants' backup quarterback behind Daniel Jones.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Remains limited Thursday

Lock (abdomen) remained a limited participant on Thursday's estimated practice report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Lock was injured in New York's Aug. 8 preseason contest. If he's unable to dress as Daniel Jones' backup Sunday against the Vikings, second-year QB Tommy DeVito would get the nod as the Giants' QB2.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Starts week limited

Lock (abdomen) was a limited participant during practice Wednesday, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports. Lock is still tending to the injury he suffered in the team's first preseason game Aug. 8 against the Lions, but it's been clarified as an abdominal issue and not a hip concern. Carroll reported last Wednesday that head coach Brian Daboll thought the Missouri product would likely be ready Week 1, so his current status may not be of much concern. Either way, Lock will be on the sidelines Sunday when the Giants host the Vikings, either as the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Daniel Jones or as an inactive. If he's ultimately unable to play, the team will turn to Tommy DeVito as the backup.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: No action in preseason finale

Lock (hip) did not appear in Saturday's 10-6 preseason loss to the Jets. Lock injured his hip in the Giants' first preseason contest and has not appeared in game action since. However, he has returned to team drills and was spotted in pads before Saturday's game. Considering the health concerns surrounding starter Daniel Jones, the Giants had little to gain by putting Lock in potential jeopardy ahead of the regular season. Lock will enter the season as the backup, assuming he's healthy enough to suit up.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: In uniform Saturday

Lock (hip) is suited up ahead of Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, Bob Brookover of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. Lock was removed from the Giants' exhibition opener Aug. 8 and eventually was diagnosed with a bone contusion in his left hip and a strained oblique. The pair of health concerns sidelined him at practice until this past Tuesday, and he now has a chance to see his second dose of preseason action Saturday. Assuming he gets in the game, Lock would split QB duties with fellow reserve Tommy DeVito, as Daniel Jones is expected to sit out.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: Could play Saturday

Coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday that Lock (hip) is doing "a lot better" and could be active for Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Lock said he fully expects to be ready for Week 1, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. The backup QB suffered a bone contusion and strained oblique during New York's preseason opener against the Lions, but it doesn't appear he'll be sidelined too long. Until Lock returns to practice, though, No. 3 quarterback Tommy DeVito figures to benefit from increased reps.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: To miss time, won't need surgery

Lock (hip) is expected to miss time due to a bone contusion and strained oblique suffered during Thursday's preseason game against the Lions, but he will not require surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Coach Brian Daboll said the Giants could add another quarterback with Lock injured. Though Daboll declined to offer a true estimate of Lock's recovery timetable, per Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports, he did say "it could be longer than a couple days." Tommy DeVito figures to step up and handle the bulk of second-team reps at practice as long as Lock is unable to go. It's possible, depending on the extent of Lock's absence and whether DeVito is able to impress with more opportunities on deck, that a competition for the No. 2 spot behind starter Daniel Jones could materialize.

  • Giants' Drew Lock: In the mix for starting job?

Seahawks GM John Schneider said Thursday that he wanted to re-sign Lock but wasn't able to because the Giants sold him on an opportunity to compete for a starting job, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Schneider revealed the interesting bit of information on The Wyman and Bob Show (710 Seattle Sports) shortly after trading for former Commanders QB Sam Howell. Reports suggest Lock signed with the Giants for backup money -- a one-year, $5 million contract, per ESPN -- but he may nonetheless have a chance to start due to Daniel Jones (knee) coming off a disappointing season in which he averaged a career-worst 5.7 yards per pass attempt before suffering an ACL tear. Both quarterbacks are 2019 picks entering their age-27 campaigns, and while Jones has a full guarantee for his $36 million in compensation this year, the only guarantees thereafter are for injuries. Even if Jones ends up starting for most of the season, it could turn into a 2023 Russell Wilson situation where he's benched to avoid those injury guarantees and ensure the team can move on from him in the offseason. The various factors, including Jones' rehab from knee surgery, give Lock a good chance to play at some point this season, though things would get more complicated if the Giants bring in a rookie QB on Day 1 or 2 of the upcoming NFL Draft.

  • Seahawks' Drew Lock: Solid in limited action

Lock completed 48 of 76 passes for 543 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions across four games in the 2023 season. He also rushed five times for 14 yards. Lock started two games, finishing with a 1-1 record after a thrilling win over the Eagles in Week 15. The 27-year-old quarterback recorded 7.1 YPA while 10 of his 76 passes went for 20-plus yards. Lock certainly appears to be one of the top backups in the league, but his chances of being a starter in 2024 are slim, especially with a solid rookie quarterback class coming in. Nevertheless, he'll be a free agent in March and could seek a better chance to start elsewhere, as Geno Smith's contract all but guarantees he's the starter in Seattle to begin next season.

  • Seahawks' Drew Lock: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

We'll see if Lock or Geno Smith starts in Week 16 at Tennessee, and either one should be considered a streaming option against the Titans. For Lock, he only scored 14.1 Fantasy points against the Eagles in Week 15, but he threw a game-winning touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with under a minute left, which should give him confidence moving forward. And he had 19.3 Fantasy points when he started at San Francisco in Week 14. This is a favorable matchup against Tennessee, and Lock is a good streaming option in deeper leagues if he starts again for Seattle.

  • Seahawks' Drew Lock: Working with first-team offense pregame

Lock was spotted warming up with the Seahawks' first-team offense ahead of Monday's game versus the Eagles, despite Geno Smith (groin) being active, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. In fact, Smith hasn't been seen on the field during pregame warmups since completing an earlier workout in which he looked like his normal self. The Seahawks have declined to name a starting quarterback with less than 30 minutes to go before Monday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, but Lock may be the favorite to do so over Smith considering the current situation.

  • Seahawks' Drew Lock: Could be needed for spot start

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll suggested after Friday's practice that Lock could start Sunday's game against the 49ers with Geno Smith (groin) listed as questionable and being labeled as a game-time decision, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. "He's been waiting for this opportunity. If this comes to pass he is as ready as he's going to get," Carroll said of Lock. Smith's groin injury cropped up during Thursday's practice, when the quarterback "stumbled over somebody," Carroll relayed to Bell. Carroll went on to note that Smith was rested at Friday's practice, but the Seahawks are seemingly still hopeful that their usual starting signal-caller will be able to play Sunday. If Smith is unable to show enough improvement ahead of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, however, Lock has kept himself prepared to make what would be his first start for Seattle since he was acquired from Denver as part of the March 2022 deal that sent Russell Wilson to the Broncos. Lock has thus far been limited to just two relief appearances through his one-plus seasons in Seattle, completing four of 12 pass attempts for 66 yards and an interception.

  • Seahawks' Drew Lock: Ineffective in relief showing

Lock completed two of six passes for three yards and an interception in the 17-16 loss to the Rams on Sunday. Geno Smith exited the game late in the third quarter after taking a hard hit from Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Lock entered the game in relief but was unable to get the offense moving, completing his two full drives with a three-and-out and an interception. Smith eventually returned to the game for the Seahawks' final drive, which ended in a Jason Myers missed field goal. The Seahawks play again Thursday versus the 49ers. According to Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune, head coach Pete Carroll expects Smith to be ready. If Smith is unable to go, though, Lock will start in the daunting divisional matchup.
