Pelicans' Karlo Matkovic: Iffy for Saturday
Matkovic is listed as questionable for Saturday's game versus the Kings due to a non-COVID illness.
Matkovic was inserted into the starting lineup in New Orleans' most recent outing but could be forced to sit out Saturday. If Matkovic is ultimately downgraded to out against Sacramento, Javonte Green and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl are candidates to receive increased playing time.

Pelicans' Jordan Hawkins: Fades injury report
Hawkins (ankle) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against Sacramento.
Hawkins injured his left ankle during the Pelicans' 144-119 loss to the Nuggets on Wednesday. He underwent X-rays after the game that came back negative, and the injury isn't severe enough for the second-year guard to be in jeopardy of missing Saturday's contest. Hawkins has averaged 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.9 steals over 21.6 minutes per game since the beginning of January.

Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Appears past illness
Alvarado (illness) is not on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against the Kings.
Alvarado was unable to play in Wednesday's 144-119 loss to the Nuggets due to an illness, but it appears he recovered enough to be able to play Saturday. Alvarado has averaged 13.0 points, 4.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds over 23.7 minutes per game over his last three outings.

Pelicans' Trey Murphy: Flirts with double-double in loss
Murphy closed with 25 points (9-16 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-5 FT), five rebounds, nine assists and one block over 32 minutes during Wednesday's 144-119 loss to the Nuggets.
Murphy was Brandon Ingram's (hamstring) replacement for much of the season, and Ingram's trade has given Murphy the keys for the long term. Murphy has certainly earned the role, often ending the night with the team's high score and the ability to pop off for huge numbers on any given evening. Murphy recently enjoyed two consecutive 40-plus point totals after dropping off slightly Wednesday evening.

Pelicans' Zion Williamson: Posts team-high 28 points
Williamson finished with 28 points (11-19 FG, 6-9 FT), six rebounds, four assists and two steals over 27 minutes during Wednesday's 144-119 loss to the Nuggets.
Despite the experiment of an Ingram-Williamson combo coming to an untimely end, the dynamic fifth-year pro continued his solid 2024 campaign with an impressive set of numbers in the blowout loss. The recent trade doesn't give Williamson and company much immediate help, which is a signal of recognition from the team that their current 15th-place ranking in the West might not improve enough to make a difference this season.

Pelicans' Karlo Matkovic: Nears double-double in spot start
Matkovic closed with 10 points (3-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 30 minutes during Wednesday's 144-119 loss to the Nuggets.
The Pelicans pivoted from Javonte Green and experimented with Matkovic, who made his first career start in the NBA. Although Brandon Ingram had logged several absences before being traded away, his departure will force New Orleans to scour their lineup and investigate other starting combinations prior to the arrival of Bruce Brown and Kelly Olynyk.

Pelicans' Bruce Brown: Traded to New Orleans
The Raptors traded Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a protected 2026 first-round pick and a second-round pick to the Pelicans on Wednesday for Brandon Ingram, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Brown missed the first two months of the season with a knee injury but has played in 12 consecutive games. The 28-year-old guard is averaging 8.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists across 19.7 minutes per game this season. With the Pelicans dealing with plenty of injuries, Brown could have a path to a ton of minutes early on.

Pelicans' Kelly Olynyk: Shipped to NOLA
The Raptors traded Olynyk, Bruce Brown, a protected 2026 first-round pick and a second-round pick to the Pelicans on Wednesday for Brandon Ingram, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Olynyk had been a key piece off the bench for Toronto this season, averaging 7.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 15.6 minutes per game. With Daniel Theis (thumb/recently traded) no longer on the Pelicans, Olynyk should have a shot at the backup center role in New Orleans.

Pelicans' Jordan Hawkins: Suffers ankle injury
Hawkins suffered an apparent ankle injury late in Wednesday's 144-119 loss to Denver, with X-rays conducted after the game returning negative, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
Hawkins finished the contest with 15 points (5-15 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one steal across 25 minutes. He looked to be in significant pain when he sustained the injury, but the second-year guard at least appears to have avoided any structural damage to his ankle. Hawkins can be viewed as day-to-day heading into Saturday's game in Sacramento until the Pelicans provide another update on his status.
