  • Rangers' Joc Pederson: Climbs above .100

Pederson went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 loss the Giants.

Pederson's bat has shown recent life. He's gone 4-for-11 over his last five games and inched his average to .101. Pederson's not the only member of the team that's struggled to produce; the Rangers rank dead last in MLB with 86 runs over 28 games.

  • Rangers' Josh Smith: Moves to third base

Smith started at shortstop Sunday then moved to third base when Josh Jung left with a finger injury.

Smith had been filling in for an injured Corey Seager (hamstring) before covering third base. Jung believes he'll be able to play Monday, per Henry Schulman of MLB.com. If Jung is unavailable, then Smith could move to third base while Nick Ahmed starts at shortstop.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Exits early Sunday

Jung exited Sunday's contest against the Giants in the fifth inning with a cut on his index finger, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Jung was forced to leave the game ahead of the bottom of the fifth frame, though it's unclear when he suffered the finger injury. After his departure, Josh Smith moved over to third base while Nick Ahmed entered the lineup at shortstop. Jung's day came to an end after going 1-for-2 at the plate.

  • Rangers' Gerson Garabito: Demoted Sunday

The Rangers optioned Garabito to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

The right-hander was called up by Texas on Thursday but will return to Triple-A without making an appearance in the majors. Garabito gave up eight earned runs over eight innings during his previous stint with the Rangers this year.

  • Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Receiving Sunday off

Langford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

The 23-year-old started the past six games after recovering from an oblique injury, and he'll receive a day off after going 12-for-23 with three doubles and two homers during that span. Dustin Harris will pick up a start in left field and bat eighth in Sunday's series finale.

  • Rangers' Jack Leiter: Activated for Sunday's start

Leiter (finger) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game at San Francisco.

The right-hander has been sidelined since early April due to a blister on his right middle finger, but he's ready to rejoin Texas' rotation after covering 4.2 scoreless frames in a rehab outing with Triple-A Round Rock. Prior to the injury, Leiter was dominant in his first two starts of the campaign with one earned run allowed and a 10:1 K:BB across 10 innings.

  • Rangers' Paul Bonzagni: Shelved with elbow issue

High-A Hub City placed Bonzagni on the 7-day injured list April 22 with right elbow inflammation, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers got testing done on Bonzagni's elbow but it's not yet clear what his recovery timeline is. Armed with an electric upper-90s fastball and a plus slider, Bonzagni has logged groundball rates north of 54 percent at every stop, but his walk rate jumped from 5.5 percent in 25.1 innings at High-A in 2024 to 11.1 percent through 9.1 innings at High-A this year.

  • Rangers' Marc Church: Sidelined at Triple-A

Church is on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Round Rock with an oblique injury, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

It was reported April 22 that he would be shut down for 7-to-10 days. Church was optioned to Triple-A on April 16 after walking more batters (six) than he struck out (five) in 4.2 innings with the big club. The 24-year-old relief prospect showed roughly the same velocity on his pitches as in 2024, using his 87 mph slider slightly more than his 96 mph fastball. He could still figure into the high-leverage mix in a year or two.

  • Rangers' Adolis Garcia: Gets break amid slump

Texas manager Bruce Bochy held Garcia out of the starting lineup Saturday for the first time this season, Henry Schulman of MLB.com reports.

Bochy wanted to give Garcia a mental break amid a 3-for-17 road trip and a rough April overall -- he's slashing .182/.229/.299 through 21 games on the month. "It's fair to say he's not seeing the ball well right now," the manager said. "He's trying to get his timing down. That's what he says -- he's lost right now." Josh Smith replaced Garcia in right field.

  • Rangers' Nick Ahmed: Back in lineup against lefty

Ahmed started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's 3-2 loss to San Francisco.

Ahmed made a second start -- both coming against lefties -- since having his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock. He and Josh Smith have split shortstop duties while Corey Seager (hamstring) recovers. Ahmed is 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: On base three times in loss

Jung went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Giants.

Jung has hit safely in four straight games, going 5-for-15 (.333) with a walk, a home run, a double and a steal in that span. The third baseman was caught stealing in Friday's game versus the Giants before successfully recording his second theft of the year Saturday. Overall, he's hitting .275 with a .760 OPS, two homers, seven RBI, six runs scored, two steals, five doubles and a triple over 71 plate appearances. Jung is looking no worse for wear after a short stint on the injured list due to neck spasms early in the season.

  • Rangers' Kevin Pillar: Notches two steals Saturday

Pillar went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Giants.

Pillar has settled into a short-side platoon role in the Rangers' outfield, and he got the start in center field against southpaw Robbie Ray on Saturday. There's always been some speed in Pillar's game, so it shouldn't be too surprising to see him get involved on the basepaths. He's batting .300 with a .667 OPS, one RBI, six runs scored and three steals over 30 plate appearances in 2025, but there's virtually no chance he sees steady playing time, especially with the Rangers' outfield at full health.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Limits damage in no-decision

Mahle allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Saturday.

This could have been much worse for Mahle, but he induced a couple of double plays to limit the damage. A game-tying two-run single by Willy Adames in the fifth inning took Mahle out of the running for the win. The right-hander has still put together an excellent first month of the season, pitching to a 1.14 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB in 31.2 innings over six starts. This was the first time he's allowed multiple runs in an outing this season, though an early hook in his 1.2-inning season debut spared him an uglier stat line in that game. Mahle is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics.

  • Rangers' Joc Pederson: Logs first RBI

Pederson went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's 2-0 win over San Francisco.

Pederson singled home a run in the fifth inning to increase the Rangers' lead to 2-0. Incredibly, it was the first RBI of the season for Pederson, who has mostly batted third for the Rangers. After enduring an 0-for-41 stretch, Pederson has two hits and over his last six at-bats.

  • Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Three more hits in Friday's win

Langford went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Friday's 2-0 win over the Giants.

The Rangers managed just seven hits in total on the night, and Langford was the only Texas hitter who had little trouble solving Justin Verlander, with both his two-baggers coming off the future Hall of Famer. The three-hit performance was Langford's third in five games since returning from an oblique strain, and the surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .350/.429/.700 with six homers, four steals, eight runs and nine RBI in 70 plate appearances.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Bounces back with eighth save

Jackson struck out one in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning to record his eighth save of the season in Friday's 2-0 win over the Giants.

Robert Garcia remained on the mound to begin the ninth inning and struck out Jung Hoo Lee before handing the ball over to Jackson, who took care of right-handed batters Matt Chapman and Wilmer Flores. It was a nice bounce-back effort for Jackson after he blew his first save of the season Thursday, but it likely leaves him unavailable for Saturday if Texas has another late lead to protect. Through 10.2 innings on the year, Jackson sports a 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Blanks Giants for second win

Eovaldi (2-2) picked up the win Friday, allowing three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Giants. He struck out seven.

The right-hander got just enough offense to get into the win column for the first time since April 1, and Eovaldi needed 99 pitches (61 strikes) to record his fourth quality start in six trips to the mound. Eovaldi has yet to give up more than three runs in a start this season, and he'll take a 2.21 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and dazzling 38:3 K:BB through 36.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the A's.
