Rays' Hunter Bigge: Misses out on roster spot
Bigge is not expected to be included on the Rays' Opening Day roster, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Bigge has had a good spring, allowing just two runs with a 6:1 K:BB over seven innings, but having minor-league options remaining worked against him here. The hard-throwing right-hander still has a good shot to handle high-leverage situations in the Rays' bullpen at some point this season.

Rays' Alex Faedo: Headed to IL with shoulder issue
Faedo will begin the season on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder injury, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that an MRI on Faedo's shoulder didn't reveal anything "too alarming," but the right-hander will be shut down for a bit. Faedo had been in line for an Opening Day bullpen spot but will now be sidelined several weeks, at minimum.

Rays' Eloy Jimenez: Falls short of roster spot
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Jimenez will not make the Opening Day roster, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Cash noted that while Jimenez's bat "started to come to life" recently during Grapefruit League play, it's not going to be enough to crack the Opening Day roster. Jimenez -- who is on a minor-league contract -- will begin the season at Triple-A Durham and "could be huge for us at any point during the season," per Cash.

Rays' Curtis Mead: Makes Opening Day roster
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Mead has made the Opening Day roster, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Mead has been one of the best performers during Grapefruit League play, going an absurd 19-for-35 with one home run in 13 contests. Once the regular season begins, much of Mead's playing time likely will come versus left-handed pitching, although he could play his way into at-bats against righties, too, if he's able to carry over his performance from this spring. The 24-year-old has just a 78 wRC+ across 224 big-league plate appearances.

Rays' Logan Driscoll: Cut from big-league camp
The Rays optioned Driscoll (ankle) to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
Driscoll reached the majors for the first time in September and was given the chance for a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he didn't make much of a case this spring. He played in just two Grapefruit League games before going down with a right ankle injury that has kept him out of action since Feb. 25. If he's able to move past the injury within the next week, Driscoll should be in store for regular at-bats at Durham, while the Rays proceed with Danny Jansen and Ben Rortvedt as their catching tandem at the big-league level.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Beginning season at Triple-A
The Rays optioned Mangum to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
Along with Kameron Misner and Chandler Simpson, Mangum was one of three players vying for a backup outfield role that was sent to the minors Wednesday. The 29-year-old Mangum is still waiting to make his MLB debut, but the Rays thought highly enough of him to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft and add him to the 40-man roster this winter after he slashed .317/.357/.442 with six home runs and 20 stolen bases over 428 plate appearances for Durham last season.

Rays' Kameron Misner: Sent to Triple-A
The Rays optioned Misner to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
Along with Jake Mangum and Chandler Simpson, Misner was one of three players vying for a backup outfield role that was sent to the minors Wednesday. Misner saw action in eight games with Tampa Bay in 2024 but otherwise spent the entire season at Durham, where he slashed .248/.360/.442 with 17 home runs and 30 stolen bases over 519 plate appearances.

Rays' Cole Sulser: Beginning season at Triple-A
The Rays optioned Sulser to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
Sulser was one of eight players dismissed from big-league camp in the Rays' latest round of roster cuts. The 34-year-old reliever split time between the Triple-A level and the majors in 2024 between his stops in the Mets and Rays organizations. He made 10 big-league appearances and turned in a 2.76 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 16.1 innings.

Rays' Jacob Waguespack: Sent to Durham
The Rays optioned Waguespack to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
Despite putting just six baserunners on and striking out seven over six innings in Grapefruit League play, Waguespack was unable to secure a spot in Tampa Bay's Opening Day bullpen. The 31-year-old righty will begin the season at Durham, where he could operate as a swingman after starting in four of his nine appearances for the affiliate in 2024.

Rays' Chandler Simpson: Sent to minor-league camp
The Rays reassigned Simpson to minor-league camp Wednesday.
The most prolific base stealer in the minors in 2024 with 104 thefts in 121 attempts over 110 games between High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery, Simpson made waves early in Grapefruit League play by going 4-for-6 with a pair of steals and runs through his first three games. He's faded badly since then, however, going 2-for-19 over his subsequent eight contests to effectively end his longshot odds of breaking camp with the Rays. Simpson's elite wheels will make him worth keeping an eye on in dynasty leagues, but his subpar defense and dearth of power could make it difficult for him to emerge as an everyday player in the majors.

Rays' Evan Reifert: Returned to Tampa Bay
The Nationals returned Reifert to the Rays on Tuesday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.
A Rule 5 selection by the Nationals in December, Reifert flashed his swing-and-miss slider this spring in striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings. However, he also issued 12 walks and yielded 12 runs (11 earned) to earn a trip back to his previous organization. Reifert should begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Joey Krehbiel: Heading to minor-league camp
The Rays reassigned Krehbiel to minor-league camp Monday.
Krehbiel has spent parts of four seasons in the majors, but he pitched exclusively at the Triple-A level in 2024 as a member of the Mariners organization, logging a 3.26 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 58 innings. He caught on with the Rays on a minor-league deal in January, but after falling short in his bid for a spot in the big club's Opening Day bullpen, Krehbiel will likely begin the campaign at Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Garrett Acton: Dispatched to minor-league camp
The Rays reassigned Acton to minor-league camp Monday.
Acton reached the big leagues in 2023 with the Athletics and made six appearances out of the bullpen, but he was released later that summer after he required Tommy John surgery. The right-hander caught on with Tampa Bay in December 2023 on a two-year, minor-league deal, and after spending his first season in the organization rehabbing his elbow, he's ready to pitch again in 2025. Look for Acton to open the season in the bullpen at Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Jonny DeLuca: Remains projected center fielder
DeLuca is expected to be the Rays' primary center fielder to begin the regular season, John Romano of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
DeLuca produced only a .609 OPS across 362 plate appearances with the Rays in 2024, but he seemingly inherited the center field role after Jose Siri was dealt in the offseason. He hasn't fared any better across 29 plate appearances in Grapefruit League games, as he has yet to tally an extra-base hit while collecting only five hits across 26 at-bats. DeLuca's defensive ability will still be enough for him to begin the season as a regular, though he'll presumably need to be more productive at the plate to maintain that status.

Rays' Drew Rasmussen: Progresses to four innings
Rasmussen allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out six and walking none across four innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees.
This marked Rasmussen's second official spring start, though he completed three innings in a live batting practice session March 9. In addition to impressively striking out six batters, this was something of a milestone for Rasmussen as he hadn't completed more than two innings since May of 2023. Per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Rasmussen is operating as a starter, but it remains unclear how the Rays will sort out their starting rotation to begin the season.

Rays' Zack Littell: Misstep in rotation competition
Littell allowed six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two across two innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
This marked Littell's second official spring appearance as he continues to compete for a rotation spot to begin the regular season. He didn't help his cause with his results, as he was pulled in two separate innings before returning to build up his pitch count. Following the game, Littell chalked the performance up to simply a bad outing, while manager Kevin Cash expressed optimism that Littell would bounce back, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Perhaps the lone positive was that Littell did reach 72 pitches, suggesting he'll be fully stretched out by Opening Day. Drew Rasmussen, Littell's presumed primary competition, is set to start Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Club option for 2026 exercised
The Rays exercised Diaz's $12 million option for 2026 and added a vesting option for 2027 on Friday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Diaz's option for 2027 would vest if he reaches certain performance thresholds in 2026. The 33-year-old's performance in 2024 fell off a bit compared to his 2023 and 2022 seasons, but he still slashed .281/.341/.414 with 14 home runs in 2024 and boasts a career .373 on-base percentage. Diaz is slated to serve as the Rays' primary first baseman again in 2025, and he should also see ample starts at designated hitter.

Rays' Shane Baz: Encouraged despite tough results
Baz was happy with his outing Thursday against the Nationals despite allowing four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks across 4.1 innings, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Baz was hit hard early, as he allowed two singles and a homer to the first three batters he faced. He managed to settle in from there, and more importantly, both he and manager Kevin Cash were happy with the shape and execution of his pitches. Baz has allowed 10 earned runs with a 4:5 K:BB across 9.1 innings this spring, though his rotation spot seems secure given there haven't been signs of panic from either he or the team.
