Padres' Oscar Gonzalez: Lands in San Diego on MiLB pact
The Padres signed Gonzalez to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
Gonzalez spent all of the 2024 season in the minors, slashing .294/.333/.469 with eight homers and seven steals in 78 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization. Slated to turn 27 in January, Gonzalez hit .269/.299/.413 over 145 contests with the Guardians from 2022-23.

Padres' Tyler Wade: Avoids arbitration
Wade signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Padres on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Wade struggled at the big-league level in 2024, slashing just .217/.285/.239 across 155 plate appearances. However, the Padres will keep him around for another year to serve as bench depth, and the 29-year-old will earn a $50,000 raise in the process.

Padres' Trenton Brooks: Lands with Friars
Brooks signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Wednesday.
Brooks struggled in his first 12 regular-season games as a big-leaguer, going just 3-for-25 with an RBI and six strikeouts with the Giants last year. However, he slashed .302/.410/.453 with 58 RBI over 407 plate appearance in the minors, which is good enough for the Padres to bring him in as organizational depth at first base.

Padres' Henry Baez: Protected from Rule 5 Draft
The Padres selected Baez to their 40-man roster Tuesday.
Baez posted a solid 3.12 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 78 innings with High-A Fort Wayne last season, and a late-July promotion to Double-A San Antonio had virtually no effect on his performance (3.06 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). If his strong performance is able to carry over into the 2025 campaign, the 22-year-old righty could be bumped up to Triple-A El Paso before the end of the year.

Padres' Ryan Bergert: Nabs 40-man spot
The Padres selected Bergert to their 40-man roster Tuesday.
Bergert struggled in his second season with Double-A San Antonio, turning in a 4.78 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 98 innings (23 starts). Nonetheless, the Padres would prefer to not lose him in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft, so the 24-year-old righty will be given one of the openings on San Diego's 40-man roster. Bergert's performance in spring training could decide whether he returns to Double-A to begin 2025 or receives a promotion to Triple-A El Paso.

Padres' Omar Cruz: Selected to 40-man roster
The Padres selected Cruz to their 40-man roster Tuesday.
Cruz's addition to the 40-man roster will prevent him from being selected by another organization during December's Rule 5 Draft. However, he only managed a 4.42 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in his first season at Triple-A, so a promotion to the major leagues may still be a ways away.

Padres' Eduarniel Nunez: Receives NRI from San Diego
The Padres signed Nunez to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Nunez, 25, spent the 2024 season split between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization, collecting a 3.28 ERA and 64:38 K:BB over 60.1 innings. He had major control issues at Iowa, walking 26 in 23.2 frames, but Nunez has premium velocity and the Padres felt he was worth a flier.

Padres' Wandy Peralta: Staying in San Diego
Peralta exercised his $4.25 million player option for 2025 on Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Peralta turned in a 3.99 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 38.1 frames in 2024, and he'll now receive a $900,000 raise by accepting the first of three player options in his deal with the Padres. He will presumably continue to be used in mid-to-high-leverage situations.
