Red Sox's Connor Wong: Bulks up this winter
Wong appeared to be noticeably stronger at January's Fan Fest, Jenn McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Wong jokingly said he spent the winter "eating a lot," in an effort to be more durable behind the plate. The strong frame might also help him sustain through the regular season with a bat in his hand. Wong owned an .856 OPS through the end of June then dropped to .671 the rest of the way. Wong is expected to serve as Boston's No. 1 catcher and won't have to look over his shoulder at Kyle Teel, the prospect who was traded to the White Sox in the Garrett Crochet swap.

Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Unsure for Opening Day
Yoshida (shoulder) said at January's Fan Fest that he's not sure he'll be ready for the start of the regular season, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Yoshida was set to begin swinging a bat by late January and throwing by March. He spent much of the winter in Boston with team trainers rehabbing from October shoulder surgery. Entering the third season of a five-year deal, Yoshida hasn't been able to stay healthy, which has impacted production. He'll likely serve as Boston's primary designated hitter, where he spent all but one game in 2024, and could see some starts in the outfield.

Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Ready for regular spring
Whitlock (elbow) said last Monday that he expects to have a "regular spring training," Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. "They've got me built out, so I'll just join right in with the group and just go from there," the pitcher said.
Transitioning from starter to reliever hastens Whitlock's return to action. The right-hander won't need to build up to the 70-80 pitch range over the spring, which gives him a chance to be available for Opening Day.

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Invited to spring training
The Red Sox have extended Anthony an invitation to big-league camp during spring training, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
He'll be joined by fellow top prospects Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer. Anthony won't turn 21 until May but looks close to major-league ready after slashing .291/.396/.498 with 18 homers and 21 stolen bases between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester in 2024. Boston's outfield is already crowded, which makes an Opening Day roster spot for Anthony unlikely, but he could force the issue sooner rather than later.

Red Sox's Abraham Toro: NRI pact from Boston
The Red Sox signed Toro to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Toro slashed .240/.293/.350 with six homers in 94 games with the Athletics in 2024. The 28-year-old will compete for a reserve role this spring but will likely begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Worcester as utility depth.

Red Sox's Mark Kolozsvary: Returning to Boston
Kolozsvary signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.
Kolozsvary spent all of last season at Triple-A Worcester, where he slashed .185/.349/.354 with 10 RBI across 83 plate appearances. He'll stick around in the Red Sox organization for the upcoming season, though he's unlikely to spend much time with the big-league squad.
