  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Remaining with organization

Schunk was sent outright to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, per MLB's transactions log. Schunk was booted from the team's 40-man roster Saturday, and he'll report to Triple-A after being outrighted. The 27-year-old is slashing .299/.347/.522 with three home runs, 16 RBI and nine runs scored through 19 appearances for the Isotopes so far this year.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: DFA'd by Colorado

The Rockies designated Schunk for assignment Saturday. The move corresponds with the Rockies selecting Keston Hiura's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque while optioning Michael Toglia to Triple-A. Schunk saw regular work with the Rockies in late April before landing on the 10-day injured list due to a groin injury. He made 11 major-league appearances for Colorado and went 6-for-28 with one double and a 27.6 percent strikeout rate over that span.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Sent to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Schunk to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. The 27-year-old's demotion will create space on the big-league roster for the signing of veteran infielder Orlando Arcia. Schunk has gone 6-for-28 with a double and a run scored in 11 big-league games this season.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Activated from IL

The Rockies reinstated Schunk (groin) from the injured list Friday. Schunk went 4-for-14 with a homer and two RBI in four games at Triple-A Albuquerque while working his way back from a groin strain he suffered in late April. The 27-year-old had been starting regularly at shortstop for Colorado before getting hurt, but he's now likely to come off the bench more often with Ezequiel Tovar (hip) also off the injured list.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Making progress

Schunk (groin) has resumed baseball activity, MLB.com reports. Schunk has been sidelined since April 26. He has resumed fielding and batting practice as well as baserunning drills, but a timeline for his return is still unclear.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Heads to IL

Schunk was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain. Schunk had moved into a regular role, at least in the short term with Ezequiel Tovar (hip) on the shelf. Back in 2024, Schunk saw the bulk of his work at third base and second base, but with Tovar out, Schunk received all seven of his starts at shortstop. Kyle Farmer and Adael Amador should handle the middle-infield duties until Tovar and or Schunk are healthy.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Contract selected by Colorado

The Rockies selected Schunk's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. Schunk will take the spot on the 26-man roster vacated by Ezequiel Tovar (hip), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Schunk opted to stay with the Rockies in the minors after being DFA'd in mid-February, and in Triple-A he is slashing .283/.353/.435 with one stolen base, one home run and 10 RBI in 52 plate appearances. Schunk could see some starts in the infield with Tovar, Tyler Freeman (oblique) and Thairo Estrada (wrist) all on the IL.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Remains in organization

Schunk cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Rockies earlier in the week but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Schunk will remain in big-league camp as a non-roster invitee but is likely to begin the campaign at Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Taking advantage of opportunity

Schunk went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Cardinals. Schunk has started three straight games at second base with Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) sidelined and has taken advantage by collecting multiple hits in each contest. Overall, he's gone 6-for-10 with four runs scored and four RBI. Schunk hasn't gotten regular playing time since being promoted to the majors June 29, but he could make a case for playing time in 2025 with a continued strong finish and a good showing in spring training.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Goes yard in loss

Schunk went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Cardinals. Schunk's playing time remains inconsistent, but he has hit safely in his last six games, going 8-for-16 in that span. The infielder is up to a .228/.265/.342 slash line with two homers, five RBI, 12 runs scored and three doubles over 83 plate appearances in the majors this season. He's also struck out at a 30.1 percent rate, which has limited his effectiveness when he gets a look in the lineup.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Returns to utility role

Schunk is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Schunk had made starts on the left side of the infield over the past three games, going 2-for-11 with a double, a walk and a run. His first start came Sunday while Ezequiel Tovar sat out due to an illness, while Schunk filled in for Ryan McMahon at third base Monday and Tuesday while McMahon tended to a jammed finger. Both McMahon and Tovar are healthy again and part of the lineup Wednesday, so Schunk will move back into a utility role.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: First multi-hit game

Schunk went 2-for-5 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Monday's extra-innings win over the Red Sox. Schunk has only started six of 19 games since being promoted for his big-league debut, and he's accrued just 23 plate appearances as a result. The initial return isn't promising, as he's hitting just .136 with a 34.8 percent strikeout rate, though the uneven playing time likely isn't helping him settle in. Schunk also managed the first multi-hit game of his career Monday.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Debuts as pinch hitter

Schunk went 0-for-1 on Saturday against the White Sox. Schunk entered Saturday's game as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning to make his major-league debut. He had his contract selected Friday, though it's unclear how much playing time he'll receive with Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon locked in as starters at second base and third base, respectively.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Contract selected by Colorado

The Rockies selected Schunk's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. Schunk posted an .811 OPS in his first taste of the Triple-A level in 2023 and has followed up with a .291/.339/.469 slash line through 69 contests this year. That production has come in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, so those numbers can't be taken at face value. Schunk will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game, and he should see some playing time between second and third base while up with the Rockies, though those opportunities could be limited with both Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon currently healthy.

  • Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Joins roster pool

The Rockies added Schunk to their 60-man roster pool Monday. A 2019 second-round pick, Schunk hasn't played above the rookie-ball level, so he won't be a serious candidate to elevate to the big-league roster in 2020. His entry into the 60-man pool will at least allow the Rockies to oversee his development at their alternate training site this summer following the cancellation of the minor-league season.
