  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Homers, swipes bag in win

Nootbaar went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, a walk, a steal, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over Atlanta.

Nootbaar opened up the scoring with a two-run blast to right in the third and later plated the Cardinals' 10th and final run of the game with a base hit in the ninth. Nootbaar last hit a homer April 16 and went just 1-for-his-last-20 at the plate before his long ball Tuesday night. Nootbaar now sits at four homers for the year and is already up to three stolen bases after totaling only seven in 109 games in 2024.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Taking seat Friday

Nootbaar is absent from the lineup for Friday's tilt against the Mets.

With southpaw David Peterson toeing the slab for the Mets, Nootbaar will be given a day of rest. Victor Scott has been elevated to the leadoff spot and will play left field, while Michael Siani receives a start in center field.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Smacks three-run homer

Nootbaar went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Astros.

Nootbaar's third homer of the year proved to be the difference in Wednesday's win -- he launched a Ronel Blanco curveball 418 feet to center field in the fifth inning, putting St. Louis ahead 3-1. Nootbaar had a strong series against the Astros, going 4-for-9 with three extra-base hits in three games. He's now batting .284 with an .885 OPS, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases through his first 83 plate appearances this season.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: First day off Tuesday

Nootbaar is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Pittsburgh.

It's the first day off this season for Nootbaar, who is in a mini 1-for-14 funk at the plate. Victor Scott is playing left field and batting leadoff Tuesday, while Michael Siani is getting the start in center field.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Pops leadoff homer in loss

Nootbaar went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Angels.

The St. Louis left fielder opened the game's scoring with his sixth career leadoff homer, launching it 365 feet to right field. Nootbaar entered the contest as a career .266/.365/.465 hitter in the leadoff spot, which he should continue to occupy for the foreseeable future. The 27-year-old could be poised for a solid season so long as he can stay on the field, as he has surpassed the 500 plate appearance mark just once in his previous four seasons due to injuries.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Remains at leadoff versus southpaw

Nootbaar will remain in the leadoff spot for Monday's game versus left-hander Tyler Anderson and the Angels.

Nootbaar occupied the leadoff spot in all three contests against the Twins' right-handers over the weekend and he'll stay there Monday even versus a southpaw. The 27-year-old doesn't have notable splits in his career, having put up a .786 OPS against righties and .753 OPS versus lefties. Nootbaar has reached base eight times in the first three games of the 2025 season.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Success from leadoff spot

Nootbaar went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Twins.

Nootbaar batted primarily sixth in the order in 2024, though he appears to be the team's primary leadoff option against right-handed pitching to begin this season. He led off the opening frame with a single and came around to score, and he delivered his first home run of the season one frame later.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Poised to hit leadoff Opening Day

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that he plans to hit Nootbaar leadoff Opening Day against the Twins, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Nootbaar is in the leadoff spot for Monday's exhibition game versus Triple-A Memphis in what Marmol indicated is a preview of how his lineup will look in the opener. Presumed leadoff man Masyn Winn is hitting ninth Monday following a rough spring and it appears that's where he'll reside initially, at least against right-handers. Nootbaar collected a .446 on-base percentage this spring and has a .348 OBP for his career.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Reaching base often this spring

Nootbaar reached base three times and scored a pair of runs Wednesday as the Cardinals defeated the Nationals in Grapefruit League play.

Nootbaar singled twice and drew a walk and is now sporting a .480 on-base percentage this spring. He hit leadoff Wednesday and is a candidate to bat there during the regular season, but Masyn Winn (wrist) -- who didn't play Wednesday -- is still the likely favorite to hit at the top of the batting order for St. Louis.
