  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Season-high nine Ks in win

Lugo (4-5) recorded the win Tuesday against the Rangers, giving up one run on three hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out nine. The veteran right-hander had his entire pitch mix working, racking up 14 whiffs en route to fanning a season-high nine. Tuesday marked Lugo's first time firing at least six frames since he came off the injured list for his May 30 start, and it also represented his seventh quality start on the campaign as a whole. He'll bring a 3.05 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 61:23 K:BB over 76.2 frames into his next outing, which is currently projected for this weekend against a formidable Padres lineup.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: No-decision despite clean start

Lugo took a no-decision after 5.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out two during Thursday's 1-0 loss to the Yankees. Lugo played his part in a pitcher's duel Thursday, working his second scoreless outing of the season despite tying a season high in walks and a season low in strikeouts. The 35-year-old has now walked 10 batters over his last five starts, and his 2.4 K:BB ratio is currently his lowest since his rookie season. The next scheduled start for the right-hander should come next week against the Rangers.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Rebounds with five solid innings

Lugo didn't factor into the decision Friday against the White Sox after giving up two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out five. After throwing a season-low 3.1 innings in his first start off the injured list last Friday, Lugo got back on track while firing at least five frames and surrendering two runs or fewer for the sixth time in 2025. The veteran right-hander has proven to be quite a consistent fantasy option thus far, considering he's allowed more than three runs just twice and worked fewer than five innings only once in 11 outings. Lugo holds a 3.46 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 50:19 K:BB over 65 innings, and he's tentatively scheduled to take the ball next week against the Athletics.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Roughed up in return

Lugo (3-5) took the loss Friday as the Royals fell 7-5 to the Tigers, coughing up four runs on five hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three. Making his first start since May 11 after recovering from a finger issue on his pitching hand, Lugo's control and command weren't at their sharpest -- he managed only three swinging strikes among his 69 pitches (42 total strikes), and he was taken deep by Riley Greene in the first inning and Dillon Dingler in the second. Lugo has served up 11 long balls in only 60 innings this season, a huge regression from the 16 in 206.2 regular-season innings he allowed in 2024, but so far he's been able to limit the damage. He'll take a 3.45 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 45:17 K:BB into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in St. Louis.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Reinstated for Friday's start

Lugo (finger) was activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Tigers. The right-hander landed on the shelf in mid-May due to inflammation in his right middle finger, and he's rejoining Kansas City's rotation without a minor-league rehab assignment. Lugo has continued to be a reliable rotation piece for the Royals early in 2025 with a 3.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 42:15 K:BB across 56.2 innings.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Slated to start Friday

Lugo (finger) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. After being placed on the shelf May 17 due to a right middle finger sprain, Lugo healed quickly and will rejoin the Kansas City rotation when first eligible. Prior to being deactivated, Lugo accumulated a 3.02 ERA and a 42:15 K:BB over 56.2 innings.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Closing in on return

Lugo (finger) is trending towards being activated from the 15-day injured list during the Royals' weekend series against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Lugo was placed on the injured list May 17 due to a right middle finger sprain. He has made good progress in his recovery, having already completed multiple bullpen sessions since being deactivated. Lugo posted a 3-4 record across nine starts with a 3.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB in 56.2 innings prior to getting shut down.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Throwing off mound

Lugo (finger) has begun to throw off mound with increasing intensity while rehabbing in Kansas City, MLB.com reports. Lugo is expected to return when eligible from the injured list May 30 as a result. He was placed on the injured list retroactive to May 14 due to right middle finger inflammation.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Start skipped this weekend

Lugo will have his scheduled start Saturday versus the Cardinals skipped due to right middle finger inflammation, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports. Lugo will avoid the 15-day injured list for the time being, with his next outing tentatively lined up to come May 23 in Minnesota. Noah Cameron will make a spot start Saturday against the Cardinals in Lugo's place.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Logs quality start in loss

Lugo (3-4) took the loss against the Red Sox on Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts over six innings. Lugo was burned by a solo home run in the fourth inning and a two-run shot in the sixth. The 35-year-old still notched his fifth consecutive quality start, though he's now surrendered nine long balls in nine outings. On the season, he owns a 3.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 42:15 K:BB across 56.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Cardinals next weekend.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Another quality start Tuesday

Lugo allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out three in 6.2 innings Tuesday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision. Lugo tied his season high with seven hits allowed, but none went for extra bases, as the White Sox scratched across a run in the fourth and sixth innings. The three strikeouts were also his second-lowest mark of the season. Lugo still managed to post a fourth consecutive quality start, and he's gone at least six innings in six of eight starts. The 35-year-old righty is set to take the mound again to round out the weekend series against Boston.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Grabs third win

Lugo (3-3) earned the win Thursday over Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out five. Lugo was sharp Thursday, allowing just a solo homer to Yandy Diaz in the first inning before the Rays added a second run with two outs in the sixth. It's the third straight quality start for Lugo, who's allowed just five runs over 20.2 innings in that span. His ERA is down to 3.07 with a 1.05 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB across seven outings (44 innings) this season. Lugo will look to keep rolling in his next start, currently lined up for next week against the White Sox.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Goes eight innings in win

Lugo (2-3) earned the win Friday against the Astros, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out eight batters across eight shutout innings. Lugo was remarkably efficient Friday, needing only 94 pitches to get through eight innings, and he never faced more than four batters in an inning. Two of the four runners that Houston put on base against the 35-year-old reached scoring position, but neither advanced past second base. Lugo will carry a 3.08 ERA and 1.09 WHIP into his next start, tentatively scheduled to come in Tampa on Thursday.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Takes loss despite quality start

Lugo (1-3) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings as the Royals fell 3-1 to the Tigers. He struck out five. The veteran right-hander delivered his second quality start in five outings on 105 pitches (68 strikes), but Kansas City's offense had trouble solving Casey Mize, magnifying the impact of Lugo's only real mistake -- a fifth-inning splitter that stayed up to Spencer Torkelson and got deposited in the left-field bullpen for a three-run homer. Lugo will take a 3.90 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB through 30 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Astros.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Cursed by long ball

Lugo (1-2) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Yankees. Lugo worked three shutout frames before Jazz Chisholm knocked a solo homer in the fourth inning. All four runs against Lugo came on solo home runs in the fourth and fifth frames. Entering Monday's start, he'd given up just one homer through 16.1 innings and this was his first time allowing multiple home runs in an outing since June 4, 2024. Lugo now owns a 3.86 ERA with a 16:9 K:BB over four starts this season. He's currently projected to start in Detroit this weekend.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Delivers quality start Friday

Lugo (1-0) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk over six innings in an 8-2 victory over the Orioles. He struck out two. The veteran righty tossed 59 of 85 pitches for strikes in his first quality start of the season, but Lugo relied heavily on generating weak contact and managed only two swinging strikes on the night. He sports a 3.27 ERA and 6:4 K:BB through his first 11 innings of 2025, and Lugo will look to build on this performance in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Twins.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Getting into regular-season form

Lugo gave up one run in 2.2 innings with five strikeouts and two walks in Friday's spring start. He has a 8.22 ERA with a 9:3 K:BB ratio over 7.2 innings this spring. Lugo improved after giving up three runs in each of his first three spring starts as his five strikeouts showed he's nearly in regular-season form. However, spring stats hardly matter for the veteran who is locked in as the No. 2 starter for the Royals. Lugo won 16 games with a 3.00 ERA over a league-high 33 starts last season. A 21.7 percent strikeout rate left something to be desired, but Lugo provided so much volume with a surprising 206.2 innings that he accumulated 181 punchouts.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Delivers quality start

Lugo (16-9) yielded two runs on three hits over seven innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Giants. Both runs and all three hits against Lugo came during the second inning, and he retired the final 16 batters he faced. Despite the strong outing, he was given the loss as the Royals were shut out by Blake Snell and the Giants' bullpen. Lugo has posted four quality starts over his last five appearances, producing a 2.02 ERA during that span. The veteran righty owns an impressive 3.03 ERA and 178:47 K:BB through 204.2 innings this season. Lugo is projected to finish his 2024 regular season with a start in Atlanta next weekend.
