• Giants' Matt Chapman: To begin rehab in one week

  Chapman (hand) received good news from his visit with a specialist Friday and can begin rehabbing in about one week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Buster Olney of ESPN reported earlier Friday that Chapman could be sidelined at least through the end of June due to sprained ligaments in his right hand. While the update from the hand specialist didn't move up Chapman's earliest return date, it certainly lessens the possibility of a long-term absence. The third baseman will have to wear a splint for the next week before beginning rehab. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Chapman to be back before the end of June, but it seems likely that he'll be back before the All-Star break.

• Giants' Matt Chapman: Visiting hand specialist

  Chapman is visiting a specialist Friday regarding the sprained ligaments in his right hand, and he could be sidelined at least through the end of June, Buster Olney of ESPN reports. The third baseman landed on the injured list Tuesday and has already indicated that he's likely to be sidelined beyond the 10-day minimum. Chapman said he hopes to return before the All-Star break, and Friday's visit could determine whether that's a realistic possibility. Casey Schmitt has made three straight starts at third base for the Giants with Chapman on the shelf.

• Giants' Matt Chapman: Expects to miss more than minimum

  Chapman (hand) said Tuesday that he expects to miss more than the minimum 10 days while on the injured list, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Chapman was placed on the IL on Tuesday after injuring his right hand while diving back into first base Sunday. The third baseman underwent an MRI on Monday, which showed sprained ligaments in his hand. Chapman said Tuesday that he hopes to return to action before the All-Star break, with the Giants' last game of the first half coming July 13. It's a tough break for the 32-year-old, who had recorded at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .395 with three home runs, five RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases over that stretch.

  The Giants placed Chapman on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to right hand inflammation, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Chapman had X-rays come back negative after suffering the hand injury Sunday against Atlanta, but the inflammation will still sideline him for at least the next week and a half. The veteran third baseman will be eligible to be reinstated June 19. Casey Schmitt is likely to step in at third base for San Francisco in the meantime.

  Chapman (hand) underwent X-rays on his right hand, which came back negative, following Sunday's 4-3 win over Atlanta, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Chapman was hit by a pitch with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and he was subsequently picked off at first base, jamming his right hand in the process. The third baseman remained in the game as San Francisco closed it out in the top of the ninth, and he appears to have avoided a significant injury after receiving his X-ray results. Chapman can be considered day-to-day with the Giants off Monday ahead of a three-game set in Colorado beginning Tuesday.
