  Semien went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday. Semien's lone hit was a productive one, as he belted a solo homer to left field in the second inning. The veteran second baseman continues to turn things around after a horrible start to the season that resulted in a .172 batting average through 56 games. Since May 30, Semien is batting a robust .459 (17-for-37) with three home runs, 10 RBI, 13 runs and three stolen bases over 11 contests.

After going 0-for-4 in the series opener against the Nationals, Semien bounced back Saturday to stay hot at the plate. He struggled mightily in May, slashing just .207/.302/.272 with two extra-base hits and eight RBI, but the second baseman is off to a scorching start to June with a .421/.522/.895 line, five extra-base hits and five RBI through six games. For a Rangers team that has underwhelmed in 2025, a resurgence from the 34-year-old could be a key factor in helping them work their way back into contention.

Things unraveled in the ninth for Texas, but Semien continued a productive stretch that has seen him homer three times over the last six games for half of his output on the year. The second baseman is at a .210/.298/.308 slash line, 23 RBI, 21 runs scored and five stolen bases over 62 contests. Considering he has just nine extra-base hits on the year after posting 52 of them in 2024, he is due for a bit more power.

His .201 average is the highest its been since Opening Day.

It was much-needed breakout game for Semien, who's been mired in a season-long slump that's seen him get dropped to the lower part of Texas' lineup. His four hits established a season high, and the long ball was his first since May 11. The veteran second baseman likely still has work to do before the Rangers consider elevating him to a higher lineup position -- Semien is still batting just .200 with eight RBI in 90 at-bats in May -- but Friday was certainly a step in the right direction.

Thursday's single extended his hit streak to six games, during which he's batting .400 with a .520 on-base percentage. Since being dropped from leadoff to the fifth spot in the batting order, Semien has a .787 OPS over 10 games compared to .401 in 21 games atop the order.

That's a positive sign for the second baseman, who has a career-low .493 OPS through 29 games.

That appeared to work for Semien, who entered the night batting .141. Josh Smith took over at leadoff against a right-hander, though it's unclear if Bochy will continue this practice against lefties.

Semien, who is entering his age-34 season, has missed just four regular-season games in three years with the Rangers. Bochy said Wednesday he's discussed the idea of more off time with Semien and also broached moving him around the batting order; the second baseman has been Texas' primary leadoff hitter since signing with the club in 2022. Semien's .699 OPS last season was lower than his career mark (.763), but there wasn't much difference in his underlying metrics, suggesting a .250 BABIP as the most likely reason for his subpar 2024 season.
